Yeah, just the battalion alone. The Regiment is for bigger and better things, and when you need a HQ to control larger elements.

The Battalion is the normal deployment element.

Have you started to work out starlift capacity required?

I suspect it'll be huge. I started to work it out for the 2nd Dragoon (Royal Scots Greys) BG a while back, and I now know I underestimated.

2nd Dragoons Battlegroup

Major Equipment:

30 Montgomery HBTs
28 Templer IFVs
30 Rifleman APCs (4 CP, 4 EW, 4 Drone Carriers, 3 Ambulances, 5 REME
and 10 Close Logistical Support)
8 Craufurd Hover Recce Vehicles (HRVs)
3 Montgomery Recovery Vehicles (REME)
3 Templer Recovery Vehicles (REME)
15 Hover DROPS Logicistal Support Carriers

628 men, including 96 man REME LAD and 174 infantry dismounts

Total Mass, All Vehicles = 4,040 tons

Logistics Support (rounded) per Month:

Non-operational: 410 tons
Defensive Posture: 8,000 - 11,250 tons
Offensive Posture: 7,200 - 20,000 tons
Pursuit Posture: 3,000 - 4,000 tons

The combat figures depend on the units performance. The top end
includes totally replacing every vehicle almost 3 times.

These figures don't include lift and drop. Allowing for a wastage
factor of 50% (i.e. the landers structure is equal to it's load), the
fuel requirements are:

Battlegroup:

Lift: 4,920 tons
Drop: 492 tons

Logistics: (Lift and Drop combined)

Non-operational: 5,400 tons
Defensive Posture: 105,600 - 148,500 tons
Offensive Posture: 95,000 - 264,000 tons
Pursuit Posture: 39,600 - 52,800 tons

In the extreme case (Heavy Casualties, Offensive Operations) the cost
of hauling the logistics up from Earth is 90 million livre, plus the
cost of the logistics, starship travel, and dropping.

Overall, that battlegroup is costing the exchequer something like 400
million livre (2 billion modern US dollars) a month.

Starship Carriage

To carry the battlegroup, 2 Anjou's are required (allowing for
maintenance space). Logistics are roughly sg1, so a Anjou can haul
25,000 tons. In addition, the fuel must also be haulled. As you can
see, the real bottleneck is starship carriage (only 1,650 bulk
carriers, and an armoured brigade on the frontier can take almost a
hundred ships to sustain in heavy combat).

This is for a "medium" armoured battlegroup. Lifting Churchills and
Pictons would be more than twice as demanding. An Aussie "Crocadile"
battalion twice that.

True, its a huge lift, I look at five Anjou's and a dedicated troop carrier. This group however has no tanks, just light vehicles. The unit is relatively self sufficient in both combat and support abilities. If a heavier unit is required, one of the Texas armored battalions can be lifted. I like the use of the Metal class ships to drop armored vehicles that I saw on Etranger.
