NEW TRAVELLER 5 CAMPAIGN: Cirque: Touring the Spinward Marches in Traveller5

Hello All,
With all the members of COTI, I am a little shocked to say the least that backing for this great project seems to be a little short of numbers. Personally I've backed it as I believe it's going to be great and I want to encourage everyone to invest in creating more Traveller 5 adventures, Scenarios and Campaigns.

Consider Backing this project for your gaming group.

It only needs $5660 as of this post to meet it's target and become a reality. Personally I've already backed and at a high level as well.

So to meet the target, just 165 people need to back at the $35 level, or even 56 people at the $100 level, and 2 people at the 35 dollar level. Or even 378 people at the $15 level(because times might be tough). Or as I'm sure you can all do the math a combination of the above.

Heck, even if you can chip in at the $1 or $5 level, there's enough people on the COTI forums alone to get it to exceed it's target by over 200% just by backing a $1.

Please consider backing and if you havn't checked it out yet, have a look and also check out 'Lees Guide To Interstellar Adventure', which you can find on the Apocrypha CDROM available from farfuture.net if your like me and are not fortunate enough to have a hard copy.

It would be great to know what fellow Travellers think of the overall idea. Myself, I think it's great. This is a brilliant way to steer from the gun toting military style of game and instead concentrate on a more story and entertaining style of game. Add to that, what a great excuse for touring the Spinward Marches!!!!

PS. Great to see the TAS News blurb on the Campaign.

I back this project. I think the idea is really cool.

The idea of a tour is something I liked from the Veedback Amber Zone in JTAS 23. That was only 3 pages. This book is 160 pages. It will be awesome.

I have also backed this project - the idea of a traveling circus, with all the different talents and abilities of the performers and staff, along with the need to keep to a schedule, is really a fascinating idea. I hope this makes its goal.

Terrific News, almost 1/3rd of the way there. :)

Only $5425 remaining and this project can be funded.

In some ways, it's a shame that new adventures and Campaigns can't just be released, however I understand that these days, RPG games publishing is a specialised market and in a lot of ways this method assures authors of a return on there development time. So by doing new adventures via methods like Kickstarter for funding, risk on printing costs etc is minimised. It also allows people to put together projects that may previously have not been possible.

Something else I think is important to mention, is that if this project goes really well, then it's going to inspire other authors to develop a lot more new Traveller material(I hope that every author who does, has there work authorised by Far Future Enterprises first and let it be known that I for one will not be supporting any material that doesn't obtain official Traveller approval). This is a great thing for the Traveller universe as the possibilities really are limitless.

I'm checking out the Travellermap on Travellermap.com and trying to guess which worlds will be enriched by the circus. :)

I backed it. I think that supporting authors of T5 related materials will only help get wider use of T5, and that can't be bad.

Way To Go all those who have backed so far. For everyone else, this campaign book for Traveller 5 is just over 33% of the way there.
Just $5340 to go and some of us will be touring the Spinward Marches, circus style. :)

I've noted on some other kickstarters that some people wait till near the end before backing. I'm not sure of the reason for this, surely it's better to get projects to there goals as fast as possible but that's just me. (Sometimes getting the project to the goal faster means extended goals and nice bonus extra's).

Anyway, please do keep spreading the word and if a couple of hundred COTI members can back the project, we have a new Traveller campaign to look forward to(that's not many backers required at all considering the current member total of 17 873 members and growing, so feel confident that it will reach it's goal shortly.

I'm not going to back anything for T5 until I have the rules so I know if I'll be using it. I figure it's going to take a week or so to:

A) read the 600+ page monster
B) have the rules figured out to the point where I would feel comfortable to run the system

At that point I'll be willing and able to back things. Sadly with the delays in delivery I don't know if I'm going to be able to beat the deadline on this one.

I've backed at a small level, simply to support the effort and the folks behind it. I recently lost my job and it's been tougher than I expected, but in both cases, every credit counts. I'll bump later if I can.

My bigger issue is that I have basically backed two T5-related kickstarters, and have nothing to show for it yet. I'm okay about the FFE KS, I know it's coming some day. But I'm a bit bitter right now about how the other has been handled, and beginning to have doubts as to whether I'll see any more from it. That, on top of a fairly large list of KS I backed over the last 18 months that seem to have just evaporated. I don't think those who fail to finish their projects realize how much of an impact they have on the patronage of others.

Hang in there. I've taken that ride twice in the last 5-1/2 years. 20 months (total 8 the first time, 12 the second). I worked three minimum wage jobs at the same time until things finally turned around. I've eaten a lot of humble pie in the last few years as well. It makes me appreciate my family a lot more. And really appreciate the job I have now. This past year has been a blessing since I finally found a regular, well paying fulltime job.

I wish the best of luck and success in finding a suitable replacement career.

I've backed 17 Kickstarters since early 2012. Of those, two are still ongoing and I think one of them will fail (which would be the first one I've backed that won't make its goal). Of the 15 remaining Kickstarters, I have only received material from 3 of them. Of those, only one is completely fulfilled. None of them have been on time. 4 of them are 6 months or more after their original projected release date (and Ogre is fast approaching a year since it started). Of the all of them 9 of them have been in some form of semi-regular communication (some more, some less), and I think 4 of them are on track to meet their projected release. If I had one message to give to someone who's going to do a Kickstarter, it would be "communicate often and give yourself more time".

My advice to anyone planning to support a Kickstarter project is to keep in mind that all of them are being run by some guy named Murphy, and he's writing his own laws. YMMV

PLEASE NOTE: If you take a look at the Kickstarter page, you'll note that the author has mentioned this will be suitable for all forms of Traveller. While it is aimed at T5, there is no reason why you couldn't use it for what ever rule system you prefer. While I myself want to back T5, I'm discovering most Traveller fans only take the bits they want and use there own system anyway. In short, it's a campaign set in the spinward marches. The rule system shouldn't prevent you from enjoying this campaign anymore than someone putting a different wrapper on your favorite chocolate bar.

Hope that helps to allow you to back this fine project and if you do, I hope to share your adventures with you someday.

I've looked a previous versions of traveller and they haven't been able to pull my group or I away from Alternity. So being useful for all versions of Traveller doesn't make one lick of difference.

Is Alternity the one that was based on Star Frontiers and morphed for Transformers?

Alternity was the last RPG released by TSR and was killed with the release of D&D 3e by WotC.

It's settings were: StarDrive, DarkMatter, and GamaWorld (but what hasn't GamaWorld been stuck on by TSR/Wizards)

Some of us still have our original first printing Gamma World stuff.

THIS IS A TRAVELLER T5 CIRQUE THREAD

OK, I'm not getting it, what do other systems have to do with Traveller 5 guys???

This thread is about discussing this terrific campaign module. Posting threads about will it fit my obscure RPG system is not relevant. It's a product for 'TRAVELLER' get it!!!!!!

If your not a supporter of Traveller, you may like to know, your on the WRONG FORUM full stop.

It's like me saying. Well I don't think I'll back this module because it will not work with my Serenity RPG because it doesn't mention any other systems it will work with. OF COURSE NOT. IT'S FOR TRAVELLER!!!!!

With all the house hold chores done some people like to winge about RPG systems, well good for you. This is NOT the thread for it.

Personally I've seen good things in all versions of Traveller and personally I liked T4. It was a shame it was rushed to market and hence the bloopers but guess what? Now we have Traveller 5 about to burst it's way to our doorsteps and I think that's brilliant. I'd like Traveller 5 to herald a whole new plethora of new adventures, campaigns and scenarios for myself and a whole new generation of Traveller fans to enjoy. That will only happen with everyones support. Please try not to be negative before you've even seen it in any case if your one of the complaints brigade.

As for a great new campaign(not just an adventure or a scenario) like this, why wouldn't you support it if your a Traveller fan? Negativity breeds negativity. Great support shown for this will usher forth some great incentive to other writers, artists and developers out there.
