Fading Suns, ain't called the other Traveller game for nothing, There are numerous sites out there that will let you get a sampling of this fine background. Just requires you say goodbye Jump Drive, hello Jumpgates!

SKYRIG, put out in White Dwarf 15 years ago was absolutely brilliant!

I have my copy somewhere, but ripped out the Trav adventure and lost it ... I did that with a few TRav adventures and regret it! THere was another concerning a rich nobleman with a cool starship returning to his homeworld - Lone Wolf? Lone Star?

Ah, the folly of youth.

Skyrig is the business, though. ONe of the best TRaveller games you'll play. Which reminds me of another ... God, what was the name? A starship lost in a system, the PCs searching for it for the Red Planet MIning Corp .. nice game ...

Actually, WD did some GREAT Trav games. Sable Rose. Even one about an Orbital Tower gang heist by Marcus L Rowland.

Fading Suns...looked at it many-a-time. I always thought I'd like Fading Suns. To me, I didn't see Traveller, I saw Dune.

You wanna know why I never picked it up? Adventures. I hate it when a publisher puts out a game that is rules, rules, and more rules.

We need something to play with those rules!

I mean, was there ever an official adventure published for Fading Suns?

Too bad it died. But, I bet lack of adventure support had something to do with it.

Luckily old copies of the Dwarf go for a pound or two on eBay, but finding the copies with good content are the issue which is why a recommendation like this is so handy. I do have an index to WD listing the issues with Traveller articles, but no indication of quality!

Ah, an unbiased opinion! :D

Actually, I had looked at a couple of those but spotted the "contains T20 stats" bit and moved on. I'll have another read through the descriptions.

GDW couldn't write a good adventure to save their souls (yeah, I know there are a couple of diamonds in the rough...but their adventures were always what I'd call adventure outlines--not full-fledged adventures).

I've always felt this hurt Traveller.

Their LBB adventures were sketchy to say the least. The Keith Brothers' Sky Raiders trilogy (et al, I'm sure) were much better organized.

I suspect one of the things with the old LBB adventures was that they were at least 50% general-purpose resources. Most of them had a deckplan of a common (or not so common) Traveller small starship (A1, A3, A4, A6, A7, A10, A13, DA1, DA3, DA5), a world map with short descriptions of geography, history, flora, animal encounter tables, what-have-you (A2, A3, A4, A8, A9, A10); some showcased particular rules (A10 = Hunting), and some showcased aliens, including a simple chargen system (A3, A10). Broadsword (A7) was more a resource about Mercenary Cruisers than an adventure.

Since sourcebooks always sell better than adventures, this was probably a good use of a budget resource.

BJB, IMHO the best early Traveller adventures by far were non-GDW modules by the Keiths:

The Sky Raiders Trilogy (FASA, essentially Indy in Space, very gettable for players for that reason)

Ordeal By Eshaar (awesome for just the right mix of cloak-and-dagger intrigue, exotic aliens, and failed vacc suit rolls--my favorite CT era module)

The Lords of Thunder (massive campaign published in MT journal, a whole sector with one major plotline and several sideplots).

Sounds very promising. The old adventures from GDW always seemed to substitute vagueness for intrigue (and, indeed, for many other things) and my current group contains several players who thrive on mystery and social interaction. That's one reason why I'm asking for favourites from other sources that can't easily be browsed through in a store, so that I can get a nice overview of the content and style. "Ordeal By Eshaar" certainly makes its way onto my list.
