NPC Generator

Does anyone have or know of a npc generator? I'm not wanting something complicated, but have a situation where there are 2000+ npc's on a ship that is currently disabled that the PC's are trying to fix. A mass producer would be fantastic.

Oooh, that's a good question. Now, I hate to hijack this thread (and yes, to a certain extent I actually DO), but whenever the NPC generator is found, could someone find a random encounter/situation generator? Thanks!

If you're looking for Classic Traveller NPCs, I've written some perl code to generate characters for the six basic careers as well as the twelve from Supplement 4: Citizens of the Imperium. I haven't released it yet because it's part of a larger package that isn't complete, and it hasn't been well-tested. If you let me know what kinds of characters you like and how many, however, I'll do a run and either post it all here or email you a whacking big text file.

Well, most of the 2000+ people on the liner are rich, noble, or look like it. I don't expect most of them to have the vast array of skills that T4 give normal pc's, so standard Classic npc's should work just fine.

As for posting, it seams that there is an interst in large numbers of npc's, but I don't knw ow where the best place for them would be.

do you really need 2000 NPC's? what if you generate maybe a dozen critical characters and just put the rest in the "warm body" category?

Thanks for the encounter generator!

(Jame takes his time about looking, but manages to wander on over...)

Yeah, that works just fine, but having the large number can be benificial for future games too.

Thanks, that will help a lot. I certainly look forward to the finishing of your program.

I know this response is a bit late... But what you really need is a copy of the Classic Traveller Utility, by Steven Koo. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's available anywhere anymore. I have a copy of it though. If there is enough intrest, I'll post it on my website for download.

BTW, the Classic Traveller Utility will do the following;
build characters (from book 1 and supplement 4)
build worlds and animal encounter charts
build random NPC's
build random encounters
build patron/adventure seeds
build starship encounters
build ships (book 2 rules)
also includes a library data database, equipment list, and skill list

all in all, an extremely valuable bit of software.

My ears are burning...

Hi, I'm Steve Koo, the author of The Classic Traveller Utility. I honestly didn't expect anyone to remember that bit of programming since, well...

1) My original host went belly up (along with the original d/l), and
2) It was never successfully hosted anywhere else for any extended period of time (don't look at me, I have NO idea why).

Kind of blew chunks, that did.

Anyways, if you want a copy, let me know, give me your email address, and I'll email it to you.

Cheers,
Steve

btw: The CTU is Freeware, so if anyone want's to distribute it, be my guest (heck, it states it's freeware right up front when it starts up).

Actually, no. I use to come here a fair bit a few years ago, then the entire forum moved, and I never managed to re-establish a valid link. Only stumbled across this site a few days ago while looking for erratas for T20.
