Sorry, couldn't think of a title.

Anyway, we're thinking about doing Diaspora Phoenix (and the sequels) in print format. Problem is, all the print-run money is tied up for a long time to come and novels are a luxury, ie low on the priority list.

There is one option though. If we can raise the money, actually getting the book printed would be easy. (We're a publishing firm!)

For discussion, here's the plan. We'll set up a PalPal account or a special fund and take 'subscriptions' up front. If we can raise the money to print the book, we go ahead and do it. This money won't be used for anything else. If we don't get enough, we'll return the money or you can use it to buy product (possibly at a discount)

Issaries INc has used this model successfully in the past; there's no reaon why it can't work for us. We'd probably include a "Made possible by" page or something.

I think this is the only real chance to get DP into print, and at present electronic sales arenn't sufficient to justify the time required to write the sequels, however much I want to.

Ok, Good idea Martin!

Have you thought also using this model for the release of some TA's other Novels?

For Example: Say the proposed contents of "TA? Whatever" have been posted on the Travellerrpg website or the CotI boards/or a print version of a previously released (in ebook form)TA is proposed and a lot of people have expressed interest in it but due monetary/or schedule constraints they can't be published for a long period of time. I could be a good idea to use this model to ensure a swift trip to the printers for the aforementioned TA/Novel. This way what gets published first is what people want and what people have already paid for...

Just an idea,

Ps. I would like to see a DP sequel, so you can sign me up for this!

Martin:

Sounds good, just don't make it paypal exclusively. As not all countries (meaning their banking systems) are Paypal friendly. If I could make an investment (modest) say of 10-25 UKP, I would. Quicklink has shown itself to be reliable and logical successor company to GDW that it would be worth my Traveller dollar.

You might want to check with Marc and find out the success of the Citizens of the Imperium scheme, that would at least let you know how much Traveller players would shell out.

I'm toying with it as an idea for getting The Last Hurrah into print, and maybe some other stuff too. If it works, there's no reason not to do it with other projects.

I'd be interested, but I haven't any money and don't trust the internet for payment, so even if I had the money - hmm... What about either money orders, or getting a copy held for me if I paid now?

Arrangements for money-orders or checks by mail could be set up also.

Potentially, we could do print versions of anything we (or you) wanted. That said, we'd have to have the funds in hand to create a print run. It's not a matter or paying for one copy, but of getting the money together to run of whatever the printer wants for a minimum order.

Thus, there has to be a fair bit of demand...

That means that the print orderer would have to generate interest, then, which is what yer trying to do. If I had money, I'd pitch in (cause I know you won't just give it to me).

Martin

Yes try it. Especially if it gets the other parts published.

It would be nice to have a paper copy to take on hols - computer just too damn big, and I don't have a couple of days to print it off(my printers that slow).

Cheers
Richard

I'd definitely be interested.

Martin I'm surprised you didn't post this to the TNE ML's as well. If I hadn't stopped by this evening, I wouldn't have known about this. =\

Sorry to hear that ebook purchases haven't been at desired levels. I've had the link to it on my website ever since it came out, hoping to generate some interest.

I'd be interested - having bought and printed out but not yet read the unwieldy A4!

What sort of level of subscription would you require however? I've just been looking at Issaries (admittedly so poncy you wouldn't actually want to play a game with it in case it got broke) ltd edition Heroquest Rules and they are priced at $100 a pop plus $10.66 postage to the UK. My FLGS is expensive enough (mark ups due to rarity of service, and I try and subsidise them as much as possible).

This kind of pricing policy will not get the numbers you presumably eould need - so how many people would make the project viable?
