quick poll

Depending on who I play it with...planning on one of these

</font>
  • Chaosium BRP/CoC/RQ/Traveller add-on (1)</font>
  • BESM/Tri-Star dX using the JTAS CT conversion article (and bits from GT if extra detail's needed)</font>
  • T20 with bits from other d20/OGL stuff</font>
(1) since FasaTrek is kinda similar to both BRP and Traveller I may borrow skills etc. from it

regardless of the rules I'll likely use Power Projection for the ship combat and do the initial spark for chargen in some flavor of CT.

Casey (likes having lots of options for Traveller at times)

Now, IF I were to buy it (likelier, but I still haven't gotten T20), and then actually _play_ it (less likely), I'd use the CT/T4 rules I know.

I'd still buy it, if I had the money.

As always, a house variant that grafts all versions of Traveller, save GT. My only specification would be keep the UPPs in GDW/T20 format and then rest can be system-less.

I tend to relay always more on narrative and mood. Traveller started experimenting in this direction in late MT but got away from it in TNE, T4, and GT. T20 for me is about openning up the frontiers of gaming and taking only what you need. The 1248 being mostly story, is something that really appeals to me. As not only being a storyteller (part of my professional duties) but also who thinks we need more stories to help keep RPGs going.

Which is why I am a big fan of this project...so if any rules are there I would hope for T20.

Since you will be using a High Guard derivative for ship stats and I will be using TNE with my trusty FFS1 Mk1 Mod 1 could you please try and avoid turret and bay mounted plasma/fusion guns and PAs since they don't work in FFS as space weapons and it is a real pain redesigning them to take heavy lasers.

That being said I will still get the supplement. Though the base T20 rules never seem to have made it here. At least not when I could have got a set.

>>I'd love to use the original TNE rules. Of late I've been rediscovering that sets many virtues.<<

I liked the character generation system.

Alot.

All those options...

But I didn't like the damage rules, the way that since hard tasks are fractions of your asset <1/2 or 1/4> then the difference between good and bad skill gets less when you try something hard, and I think thats naff.

Most unforgiveably, automatic fire is more of a liability than an advantage.

And since I find my enjoyment of thins is directly propotional to the ammount if automatic gunfire in them, well, you can see my problem!

Worth keeping around for the character generation though, ifn you ask me.

After 20 some odd years of Traveller, we'll be using our home set system of rules. These home rules are a mix of CT, MT, & TNE and then some. I've been looking a little bit at T5 & T20 and so we might wind up incorporating those systems into our little universe. It's hard to say right now. Since T20 is quite compatible with CT, any references or stats listed in T20 are fine by us. I certainly can't rule out the possiblity that we'll go all T20 next year. The more I read of it, the more I like it.

Ath this time, I will be using T20. I might actually, if T5 gets out of "vapor" status, use MWM's new rules. I guess it will really be up to my players in the end.

1248 will be as systemless as possible, though if it leans towards a rules set then naturally that will have to be T20.

What I meant was - what rules do people expect their gamers to be using in 1248? Ie, will folks convert to T20? Use a hybrid T/5 (which was my favorite system untile T20), or what?
Were I to actually run a Traveller game again, be it in 1248 or not I'd prefer to use TNE. However some of my players get all twitchy if they can't buy the rules (they never actually buy them, but they demand that they have the option). Therefore I'd use either T20 or GURPS - probably the latter because having levels in Traveller 'feels wrong', for some reason.

Could just tell them that there are plenty of copies on Ebay...

If I were to use the 1248 setting (and thats a BIG if, since I've grown fond of GT's alternate time line), I'd be doing the FrankenTraveller thing.
Mostly CT/MT, with Mayday/HG2 ship combat, MT and T4 Central Supply Catalog base for equipment [with CT Vaccsuits], CT broker rules with add ons from GT and T20, 2d6, etc etc etc.

Its a little difficult to tally all this. There be alot of hanging chads on this one:

Straight TNE: 4
Straight T20: 4

T4/T5: 1
GT: 1

At this point things get messy:
CT/MT hybrid [mostly CT/MT]: 3 [?]
CT/T4: 1
CT/MT/TNE/T4/GT/T20/Kitchen Sink/etc
aka FrankenTraveller: 8 [?]

Maybe it would be better to put this as a poll up in the scout survey forum [shrug]. I dunno.

Hey a poll I haven'r answered! (i haven't, have I?)

I'll use MT, since it looks like I'll start a 993 MT campaign this weekend.

I don't think they believe in eBay. OTOH, in the couple of weeks since I wrote that I've become less interested in Traveller rules other than TNE (I cracked open FF&S1 again, and remembered how much I love designing stuff with it).
