Real World versus Traveller: End access

One of the things that impressed me most way back when upon reading Adventure 4 Leviathan was finally, a ship that mounted back up drives and had storage set aside for basic spare parts and electronics and machine shops.

Of course ever since then I've wanted to know where to get the space for said shops from, cost and how effective they were. I'm not expecting to rebuild the J Drive, but if I just need to rebuild the fuel pump for it I expect to be able to do that with a decent shop. Anyone have house rules on this subject?

Install "Lab" space, which has been a stock item since CT HG, for Mechanical and Electronics skills.

I only find a cursory mention of laboratories under "Summary of Ship Design" in LBB5 (and nothing in LBB2).

Laboratories and Machine Shops get some attention in FF&S for T4:
VolumeMassPowerPrice
Type(m^3)(t)(MW)(MCr)
Electronics Shop84401.00.6
Machine Shop1401201.02.0
Laboratory112500.85.0
Sickbay112500.85.0
(And, no, I don't know why there's all that empty space before the table. Freaky.)

No, it isn't in CT HG. Neither edition.

One can reverse engineer it from CT's lab ship design, but the labs themselves are not.

Nor is it in MT. Nor are shops, for that matter.

Both first have formal design system stats in TNE.

(Both were back converted for T20's HG variant and for the officially unreleased/Cancelled Avenger CT variant.)

Excellent, many thanks! And a nice table, too :) Looks like I'll be wanting a copy of FF&S for T4, I do have the TNE one. Light reading time. Thanks to everyone for the responses.

Hmm. I know I've been using them for that long. The Lab Ship is actually rather vague about allocation in both CT and MT. I'll have to dig for the original cite. It may well be in a FASA product or as an aside in an adventure.

The carriage return before each TR added a blank line at the top. When you squish all of the /TR and TR together, it adds new lines in the table without adding blank lines above the table.

Quote this post to see what I mean if my explanation was unclear.

Huh. OK, that's odd, but I understand it.

As a hint, that is actually from the errata, which is an HTML page. And, I'm not sure whence I downloaded that. (The table is in the book, but two columns were reversed.)
