Recomended reading/collecting

I found a copy of T4 Milieu 0 hardcopy with First Survey in the discount rack for $10.

I think I over paid.

I read about 50% of it last night between feeding the baby.

It was terrible.

How does the writing quality in this book compare to other "setting" fluff in other books?

The other stuff is much better. T4 was the bottom of the barrel, quality-wise, and while Milieu:0 was actually one of its better products (imagine!), it's not up to the level of ANY of the earlier (or later, counting GT & T20) versions.

The scary part is that the M0 Hardback is one of the, oh, two or three best books in T4; writing style included. The others are Psionic Institues and Pocket Empires. Central Supply Catalog and Emperors Arsenal are adequete, if uninspired even by these standards. The rest would insult a bird to use to line it's cage.

There is a book series called "StarDoc". It is a wonderful set of 4 books in a SciFi setting from a doctor's point of view. Interesting to say the least... Wish I could remember the author...

If you like Docs in Space - There is a series by White about a large station called "sector general" which is a multi-species hospital - I recommend it if you like lots of aliens IYTU"

A great RPG book that's not Traveller, but comes in handy for Traveller, is the "BlackEagle/BlackEagle Operative's Kit and Handbook." This was produced by Chameleon Eclectic for "Millenniums End," a modern day techno-thriller game. The company is now folded and the book is out of print, but if you can find a copy I highly recommend you get it.

The Operative's Handbook is full of non-rules information that is useful in military campaigns using small units and in black ops/corp espionage campaigns. Has information on tactics for urban and outdoor environments, sniping, demolitions, breaking into a secure site, setting up and avoiding ambushes, field recon, assaulting a position, setting up a defensive position , how to be a bodyguard and protect a VIP, how to gather evidence -- the list goes on.

For players and refs who have never been in the military, this book is packed with good information you can use in many styles of rpgs.

Ok so I have been reading Pournelle for a long time.
Speaking of Pournelle, I think we need to kidnap him and refuse to release him until he has a new manuscript ready to be published

He keeps a daybook (not quite a blog) at http://www.jerrypournelle.com/ - interesting stuff.

He's currently working on Burning Tower (the sequel to Burning City) with Niven and Marmalukes the third book in the Janassaires series.... no real plans for any co-dominium stuff in the near iirc.

MOre Janisaries????!!!

You don't know HOW LONG it's been since 'Storms of Victory'

Third book?

I thought the existing series was:
Janisaries
Janisaries: Clan and Crown
Janisaries: Storms of Victory

wouldn't that make 'Marmalukes' book 4?

Last time I learned to count that would be 4. But I am just a D.A.T. at heart anyway.
