Retro-Future Ship Interiors

Star Citizen ships have a definitely different ethos then Traveller in that most ships are designed for short duration missions and when bedding is available they are mostly bunk beds (some of which double as escape pods).

But they are working on the idea that players move around in them and get world immersion, so they are thinking through functionality and ergonomics.

If the shag rug surfaces are thick enough, you might not need hand-holds for zero-G...
Come to think about it, Aslan and Vargr have claws so this might be standard for them.

It also implies grav-Roombas to clean the shaggy walls and ceilings.

...and in the lounge on the Yacht of the Vargr Buffalo Bill, Khuughko looked at the wall, recoiling with growing horror. "It's, no, it can't be. That's not Uncle Gvestughzkodh? Oh my Maker, it iiiiiiiiiiiis!?!" he howled

Retro to me would be neon lights. Of course, the glass ones, along with the high voltage/current, would be painful in more ways than one.

But I have a neon clock that runs off of a 9 volt adapter. And no glass.

Very Pretty.... but play-value?

For the PC that is a company rep for the customizer? Once upon a time, car companies only built the frame and power train and you sent your car to a carriage maker for finishing (which evolved into the car companies bringing those in-house). Could be something like that.

Very Pretty.... but play-value?

Since the game does not have a functional persistent universe, not much at the moment.

But one imagines it would be similar to yachts in Traveller, places to Do Deals and bigshots to ride around in comfort.

There may be an 'NPC impressed with ride on yacht so they do you favor' mechanic. VIP transport- and hiring escort ships for same.

It was also mentioned by some players that they intend to use the Phoenix as something like a corporate jet with the capability of holding meetings and function as a corporate leader HQ flying in to take charge of a 'situation'.

Play Value?

Maybe not on the Frontiers, unless some rich jerk from the central worlds wants to investigate his/her/its corporate holdings on some semi-industrial slave world.

Player Characters could be crew and security, or some poor smucks in a beat-up Beowulf responding to a distress call from a miss-jump.

Or, well endless.

So many of the ship designs are utilitarian, as they are the freighters and liners and all-purpose ships (the vans, pickups and suvs) of the galaxy. But somewhere, somebody has the credits for some stuff that the rest of us can't even dream of seeing them. (Think some of the really luxurious yachts being produced today. They are evolutionarily more advanced than your family Bayliner cabin-cruiser from your local boat dealer.)

While it is hard to quantify the play value of deluxe interiors, they would be useful on some of the published adventures, Safari Ship being one of them. I can imagine that ship being equipped with a custom interior of animal hides and skins, along with a big holo-screen showing prior kills and captures. Something like the equivalent of bear rugs on the deck, animal heads on the bulkheads, and rhinoceros hide coffee tables.

In a Traveller sense, perhaps you don't get the high end spenders and/or SOC unless the ship is loaded with space and luxuries beyond the plebeian common High Passage, and the ship itself gains reputation (and resulting DMs/Patrons).

"Frank, you remember that regional general manager from Zirunkariish, the one who approved the financing for that tower arcology as long as their new in-house construction department got the contract? How it failled, killing a couple million, including your family? Yeah, I knew you'd remember. He's finally left Vland, in one of these. See the hull specs? C-42 isn't going to cut it, not if the ad copy's telling the truth. But you're in luck, 'cus I know a Vargr who knows a guy, there's some C-58 in a warehouse and in a week it ships out for some starport construction project in the Marches - yeah, that's right, Scouts, I'm not going against the Marines. But, we go in, get the stuff, and it'll be six months before they notice. Then, we wait 'till the RGM goes through this system here..."
