Ringworld (CT type)

Boy am I late to this party.
Well, its about time. :)

So, the Lenikravitz system has this ringworld AND a water world?? Either that's a very crowded little habitable zone, or this ring is a LOT less than 30 million kilometers - in which case why mention the 30 million?

Gotta say though, flat expanse in vacuum under bright light - seems like an ideal place to build solar-powered factories.

It's a bit odd gravitically agreed. The ring would affect the planet.
If the planet is inside the ring, perhaps Grandfather intended it as the first seed of material. Now thousands of years the decendants of engineers (Chippers) are there.

Per travellermap.com Leenitakot is a binary star system, a K3 and an M7. Since canon says its supposed to be around an M1, take the travellermap data for what you will.

For simplicity say its a distant binary, K3 and M1, the water world chock full of chirpers (and how does THAT work?) at the K3, and Grandpa Yaskoydrays Fantabulous Universalizer at the other.

30 million km from an M1 gives a rough temp of about 20C, so it is in the habitable zone, implying it was meant to be inhabited at some point. But then again the Ancients did a lot of things that don't seem to make much sense.

Philip Jose' Farmer's World of Tiers is also a series of pocket universes. The Lavalamp world story was interesting enough I almost used that on my AD&D players' characters. They politlely requested I not do that. My Crestar site is based on it being in a pocket universe.

I've known other refs that did the same thing linking all their campaigns together through Traveller.

Was just reading GT:AR3 about the Inheritors and there sphereworld (Noog 3201). Seems to me if someone was eager to invade and take it from them, they certainly would not be big enough to fight for it. Of course, the inhabitable portion is only 1%.

Possibilities

I still think that it is part of the mechanism for pinching off a pocket universe.

The original builder never got the chance to finish the project for whatever reason.

Spoiler:
According to the new canon of MgT Secret of the Ancients more than just Grandfather survived the Ancient war by the way

It may be a trap, it may have a control centre hidden away in a smaller pocket universe, plenty of adventure possibility.
I see many possibilities for the players to "Visit" this ringworld.
I am unsure if anyone would want to remain here and see it completed (Unless Grandfather showed up and started working on it)
I like the idea of it being threatened with destruction by an asteroid and the players needing to find and operate the controls of the defense system for this one time event.
OR
The players finding the instructions for operating the systems/robots/chirpers to complete the project or finding the blueprints n the control room with tri-vid simulations/model of the completed ring.

Yes there are many scenarios, however, a race does not build a ringworld (mass enormous) that could be destroyed by an asteroid or even one planet. Stability is a big thing.

Completing the project could be interesting. Who's to say it stopped working on it. IMTU it is supposed to be hit by asteroids, planets (slowed by its gravity) on a regular basis.
