Roger Sanger's (DGP's) Copyright Policies

Well, I was going to include a vehicle or two from the 101 MT Vehicle guide in a couple adventures I was writing, but it's like I don't know what I can and can't use. So I commissioned someone to create something for me (which is a story in itself). I can't use of the things mentioned there unless they were mentioned before.

Big deal.

One or two of the illustrations from 101 Vehicle Guide have appeared in other products. (I'm at work right now so I'm doing this from memory.) The Gram grav tank from the inside cover appeared in GURPS as a merc tank (god knows why the change), and the Trepida grav tank was in multiple TNE books. There may have been some others too.

Isn't that what GT did and MgT is doing?

Hans

Not MgT - it's overwriting the information more often than not. GT, not as such, but...

There is nothing comparable to SSOM nor WBH for MGT. The Aliens seem to be "Let's ignore everything but the original alien modules, then go far afield"...

GT: First In is a cousin to WBH, and there's no comparable for SSOM.
GT has incorporated parts of the information for Vargr, Aslan, Solomani, and Vilani; I've heard the detail levels are lower, and

Further, any "work around" that doesn't use the same profile fields and relative ratings isn't really compatible with WBH.

Whatever. It seems like every year or other year this thread comes up, and it's the same old story.

Here's a thought, why not a Kickstater campaign to get a fund going to re-acquire the rights, expedite the process since it seems it's all about 30 pieces of silver, so to speak ?

Would that not be a wine-win for all interested parties ?

It has already been suggested. And I think several people said they would support such a Kickstarter (including myself).

The problem is that if Roger Sanger is unwilling to sell the rights, your kickstarter ends with refunding the money and some bad feelings.

I'll pass.

I wonder what the issue is with him. He's going to sit on the DGP stuff until he gets a princely sum or not sell it at all, is that it?

I think speculating about Roger's motivations is at the very least unproductive, and could be counterproductive. We don't know whether Roger watches this forum at all, and in the past, his name has been greeted with - or even used as - opprobium. And I'll admit I'm one of the guilty in that respect.

The occasional thread on the topic of retrieving the DGP corpus might be useful if for no other reason than it can be used to gauge interest in seeing the effort continue - but once speculation on motivation or personalities gets involved, I think there's too much potential for a hatefest to develop.

At this point, we know that Marc and Don haven't given up. I think perhaps we should let it rest at that for now.

No, it's just that people want it slightly more than grand census. I wish I'd bought it when I had the chance.
As usual late to any discussion :oo: but Wayne's Books has Grand Survey for $70. If you count inflation that's about the original price so Cheap(!)

I just traded for one. Got it last week.

She opened the store in '92, by the way, and is still there.

Oh yeah? She literally gave me pennies on the dollar for my DGP stuff. I was extremely bitter, but at that time in my life things were at an all time low, so I essentially sold it to her for a song. I wish I hadn't. Anyway, wow it's all available on PDF at Drivethru, so it's a "moot" point (Traveller pun intended).

Wow, thread necromancy.

I ready through the thread, finding myself wanting to argue with Dead people...

All I can say right now is T5 needs it's equivalent of DGP.

There were two potentials... but one died.
