Been driving down the road and I saw a truck with an interesting name on the side of it and I had a thought (I know, rare, but it does happen) - we should make a list of real world transport companies that could sound good in a Traveller setting. Kinda like the Ship's Names list that keeps going.

When I worked for Aerojet there was a time when every time an "all hands meeting" was called folks would go in saying "I wonder what company we're going to be working for when we come out?" because they were constantly reorganizing. And every re-org had a series of name changes associated with it as we either "diversified" or "consolidated."

Some of the name permutations:
Aerojet Liquid Rocket Company
Aerojet Solid Rocket Motors
Aerojet Strategic Rocket Company
Aerojet Tactical Motor Company
Aerojet Propulsion
Aerojet Environmental Systems

Along the way, there was one little spinoff group that only lasted a short while before being re-absorbed in the next re-org:
Aerojet Energy Conversion

The first time I saw that on a project folder, I thought, hmm...that pretty well describes everything we do!

Oh, and I've been told that Aerojet had its own trucking company at one point. Somebody thought it'd be a good idea for picking up some extra bucks by hauling the rockets we built, it was said. They still had some of the trailers hanging around when I was there--no name on the side, but some of the oddest-shaped trailers you've ever seen.

nearly everything in The Attican Republic is 60% to 80% Government Owned - and the people like it, Taxes are currently at 2% to 5%.

The METENG Consortium - Metals, Minerals, Mining, Oil Production. Includes Metal and Mineral Processing - including Radioisotopes, Fuel Grade and Weapons Grade Transuranics.

The AGRITECH Consortium - Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fishing, Agricultural and Fishing Equipment, Materials. Includes Food Processing.

The CANMI Consortium - The Ceramic Armour and Nuclear Materials Industry. Manufacturing Boron Carbide, Boron Carbonitride and Aluminium Nitride.
The Boron Carbide is used for commerical grade Armour - and Radiation Shielding, the other two are used for Naval and Military Armour.

I have one for ya.. The Shrubbery Corp. I found them on Regina looking for some shrubs for my property. They arrange, design, and sell shrubberies. The companies CEO is Roger the Shrubber.
