Ok, the players have come face to face with the Demigod of the Traveller Universe - Grandfather. I have been toying with the idea of redoing the whole Ancients trilogy again but as a kinda "Return To..." in which many things may seem familiar but different. I was think that whilst on a routine trade mission, their ship misjumps into an abandoned star system upon which they find another Ancient Ship which takes them many parsecs Coreward on another Galatic Arm, in which life evolved out there in parallel with Charted Space but different. Ideas how to continue?

This thought came immediately to my devious mind...

Have one of the players, if good at roleplaying and coached by notes from you; or an NPC, especially if either is psionic, begins having nightmares.

Upon examination, which should take a lot of effort, the characters find they are in a Matrix-like ubersimulation designed by Grandfather to determine if he should come out of his pocket universe and 'clean house' once and for all.

Would they take the red pill or the blue one?

Maybe, I was thinking making the characters Droyne as they attempt to find meaning in an universe that seems to beckon on to greater things in which the end point sees the transformation of the Droyne back into the Ancients.

^ Hmmm, never tried that one.

Maybe they could be caste-less Droyne, shunned by their society because they don't quite fit in. But actually, they are genetic throw backs to the Ancients. They naturally gravitate toward each other, drawn over the sectors to one world by an unexplained psychic actraction. As they close in on each other, more and more images and feelings are shared until they finally meet. Then, when they touch, some long lost race memory is unlocked, lauching them into a search for the Droyne homeworld and Grandfather.

Just a thought ... seems very cliche but could be fun.

Ran,

The really cool part is that they will be compelled to find Grandfather and his pocket universe.

Unfortunately, when they do find Grandfather, the first thing he is going to do is say, "Crap, how did I miss them!?" and try to kill them immediately.

Whether they survive or not is up to you.

IF ANCIENTS ARE INVOLVED THEN THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME KIND OF ANCIENT'S TECHNOLOGY INVOLVED. MAYBE THE CHARACTER'S ARE CHASING SOME PRAETER-TECHNOLOGICAL TRADE OPPORTUNITY?

Forgive my impudent caps lock, I thought that an ancients link might be best made with a consignment of disintegrator pistols to chase. The illegality of which giving rise to the necessity for a hasty jump into hyperspace too near a system world and hence causing your misjump into the uncharted realms.

Or a broker's tale of the location of just such an ancient shipwreck in some hex location or other that as well as eventually transporting the crew onward and beyond. Also has a cargo hold of TL++ manifest to tempt the player's to investigate.

Trademark,

Both very good ideas.

Care to elaborate on them? Sketch out the broker's tale or describe why those disintegrator pistols aren't recognised for what they are?

Have fun,
Bill
