Snowstorm 2016

Ha, the weather here in New Zealand is close to the opposite* of what you guys are having in North America. It's set to be 29 °C today. :p

*I guess "the opposite" of a snowstorm would actually be a heat wave or something like that, which isn't the case here, but still.

Actually, at this point we kind of are having a heat wave, as it's the hottest it's been all summer, though it's not particularly extreme. It's not necessarily as pleasant as it may seem to those who are buried in snow. For one thing, my computer keeps overheating. :p

The opposite I can think of is a Hot Humid Summer day in Arkansas or Louisiana, ugh I can't stand that kind of heat!

Yeah, it's a bit like that at times.

here in california, a tomcat comes round my house to eat the other cats' food. sunny day today and I saw him in my backyard, laying in the shade.

In northwestern Baltimore County, MD, we got 32" of snow in 36 hours. My little back street wasn't plowed until yesterday afternoon. We have front-in parking in front of our townhouses, so there was no place to put the snow when we dug out. Took me about 8-9 hours to dig out one car, carrying each shovelful of snow 8-15 steps to dump it.

A friend and his wife life in Great Mills, MD - about 2 miles west of NAS Patuxent River - they got just over 12" of snow.

lol

Would you believe it was hotter outside the car today south of San Francisco than inside because I had the AC running :D

33°F in Eagle River, Alaska... I'm about 100m more elevation from the official weather station, so adiabatic lapse puts that right above freezing...

We have had squalls of snow starting out as rain this morning then looking very blizzardly at times, luckily not much has accumulated, looks pretty.

69 Fahrenheit in San Rafael today. Where's my parka :D

Serisouly, the night before the Superbowl we had a very serious cold snap (well, for the Bay Area at least).

Lots of high altitude clouds right now....kind of that half blue sky half overcast effect going on. It is cooler, and we're supposed to get rain at some point.

Got up to 38F today, snow flurries for about an hour, and now gone. Temp tomorrow morning is predicted to be 21F.

SanDragon; oh dear, I hope I didn't hit a nerve :D

Semi seriously; back in the day I used to go skiiing with the parental units up in the Sierras and Rockies. Nothing like being around a fire with a bunch of friends of the family inside some lodge as it gently snows outside. :)

That is ... until you go outside :nonono: Dodge Ridge, Donner Pass, Strawberry, Tahoe. Yeah, I know snow and cold. And the high altitude only makes it worse.

On the lighter side, Half Moon Bay's Titans of Mavericks competition is on this weekend. Linky; http://titansofmavericks.com/ :)

Noop!

Where ever you go, you're going to have some form of seasonal weather you like and don't.

The Phoenix valley is nice...except in the summer. :p

As for Indiana, I don't mind snow. I Hhhhhhhhate cold!

Snow flakes in Atlanta. No accumulation today.

I did my penance in the snow belt. Alaska for 2 years as a toddler, midwest for 4 years after that. Later I lived for 3 years in the northeast, and then 18 years in Syracuse, NY. Can you say "lake effect?" :oo:

When the snow is blowing parallel to the ground, and visibility is down to 5 feet or less ... When you stand on top of s snow drift and the street sign you are standing next to only comes up to your shins ...

I moved to Atlanta for a reason. I hate snow! I'll take a few flakes. :coffeesip:

Cheers,

Baron Ovka

I've been reading a hiking forum. One guy they know decided to hike the Appalachian Trail starting this past December. I forget where he is currently, but he is at a place called Greylock a few days ago. About 2200 miles, mostly in snow and ice. He did go into town a few weeks ago due to a blizzard. When it went further east, he went back on the trail. He started in Maine. About a week or so ago, someone else started northbound from Springer Mounain in Georgia.

Winter hiking the AT is not reccomended, but it has been done.

Hmm, tomorrow night the forecast is for One Below. Sky is very clear and blue, so Anchorage weather for the next couple of days, although I am just north of Chicago.
