Something about... Shadows

In my group's version of The Traveller Adventure, the Ref mentioned that there were a number of similar sites spread out over the Aramis/Lunion/Regina area; I asked if it was related to the one in Shadows and he said yes.

Now, seeing as I don't care for making the race which built the pyramids being the Hhkar, I might take what my Ref said as a starting point and make a (possibly extinct) race which built them and came from this area for it, which sent out STL colony ships to the various sites.

Jame, that's reasonable, and seems to be a good balance between "identifying them with something already in canon" versus "leaving them an isolate".

I had the same reaction to Shadows that I had to the original Traveller boxed set: "Ok, what am I going to do with this?" While that just doesn't work for a lot of people, I loved it - it wasn't an over-imagined product, and I could do whatever I wanted with it.

Unfortunately, that was so long ago that I don't remember what we did with it. I was probably 12 when I ran it, which implies I shoehorned some monsters in there to spice things up.

I do recall having a boxed set of Traveller miniatures with a cover painting that referenced Shadows - anyone have a scan of that?

I've run it as is, and I've run it with "popsicles" down below to liven things up.

It's a great exploration, if the GM is willing to tackle "where it points to."

Unlike what people now seem to expect, most "adventures" in print in the day were intended for one or two sessions. Most modern ones are really mini-campaigns.

IMTU we call them "Corpsicles." I think that the author of "Rocheworld" may have coined the word for a person frozen in suspended animation.

BTW: That "Colonial Administration Center" I mentioned earlier is located on Forboldn (IMTU), and is from where the day-to-day operations of the Forboldn Project are run.

(Yes, MTU is now more canonical since getting the CT CD, but I haven't completely abandoned the Maranan Cluster.)

I always thought it was Larry Niven who coined the term.

Looks like we're both wrong...

Corpsicle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

"Corpsicle is a term that has been used in science fiction to refer to a corpse that has been cryonically cryopreserved. Its earliest printed usage in the current form dates from 1969 and appears in Fred Pohl's book, "The Age of the Pussyfoot."

That's how my buddy and I dealt with it when we first ventured into Traveller. "Hey wow, looky here. This looks cool... what is it?" At which point we stumbled through it, put it away, and never looked at it again.

I was tempted to run it, but compared to the other adventures in LBB format, Shadows seemed a tad mundane. Now I view it as a golden opportunity to create some real atmosphere (though I'll probably never run it).
