SUPER STRIKER!!!!!

trader jim

SOC-14 1K
here is an idea that its time has come - garf touched on it, i have been wrtting down some notes
for several days now - there note realy ready yet - these are just thoughts. here goes - let me ramble on. book case type game, avalon hill type, slick, computer grapics, 1,000 counters+ open ended rules, add on supplements, different type infantry, bugs, aliens, drop ships, info counters, fire teams, squads, jump/drop troops,
flyers, speeders, grav tanks, floaters, different weapons, slug, plasma, sci-fi stuff, on and on and on, mounted maps, changable terrain, sceniero generators, i want EVERTHING in this board game!!
AND i want it CONVERTABLE to MINIATURES!!!
SKIRMISH - ONE ON ONE - NOT SQUAD LEADER!! we all could support this thru web site - would be a geat drew to other sci-fi gamers. i would love to see a game of this caliber with the TRAVELLER logo
EMBLAZONED across it. and heres the kicker - i would pay MEGABUCKS to own one!! will post more later if any one wants to listen.

And how is this different from Striker, Anzanti High Lighting, and Snapshot? Except for the $50,000 worth of glossy flash?

I'd pay to play Striker. I'd pay for and paint striker miniatures.

of course I suspect that means I'd have to pay for two game and two armies and then whap one of my friends over the head with a sap...

so...

well. We'll see.

I rephrase. I'd buy Traveller Miniatures.
I'd play a traveller strategey game Especially a miniatures one.

Buying one. depends on the interest I can drum up among my gaming pals.

garf that was not aimed at you - but i think we could use a whole new "modern, up to date system"
and yes i like to play a good game of striker, and i would love to sit down and paint some good
15mm traveller figs. but there arnt any and there is not even any "counters" that we could use - thats the whole point of a "NEW" game. right??
and i would pay a lot for an outstanding set - i
stress the OUTSTANDING part!!

This doesn't seem to be the place to go. The fantasy/sci-fi minature battles arena appears to be dominated by the warhammer line of games. Even WOTC could not break GW's hold on the market. Thus the cancellation of Chainmail. (Though truthfully, they didn't give Chainmail enough time to become successful...).

Just a thought. ;)

disagree disagree - warhammer and wotc ARE NOT traveller!! there is a LOT of sci-f1 gamers out there who Dont like warhammer and that other company i dont even want to mention there name anymore!!

with such a overwhelming response i can see there
wont be a new ground infantry game soon, o well....maybe net decade.......

It's not impossible.

BITS are publishing a modified version fo the Full Thrust miniatures space combat game specifically for Traveller. If that sells well, I don't doubt that a similar adaptation of Stargrunt could happen.

</font>[/QUOTE]Yes yes yes yes yes...

I'm an avid Full Thrust player. Ground Zero Games does have two "mudders" games: Dirtside and Stargrunt. I just played Stargrunt for the first time and found it a little cumbersome. The guy running it thought that the Star Wars miniatures game plays better, but I've never played that. Check their games out and see if they are compatible with Traveller (several people on the GZG mailing list are Traveller players, also. And give them something to talk about, 95% of that mailing list is now OT).

You can share miniature lines.

Don't reinvent the wheel, just round off the square ones. :D

I've been interested in Full Thrust for a while, but I've been waiting for the Traveller version before I pick it up.

As for a ground miniatures game, I had forgotten that GZG has two different ones. What's the difference between Dirtside II and Stargrunt? I can't find what I'd call a coherent explanation of the diffenrece in scale. I know Stargrunt is apparently "Squad level" and Dirtside is "Microarmor" but those scales don't seem terribly clear to me. My only real miniatures experience is with Combined Arms, where each stand is a platoon of vehicles or infantry.

(The GZHG website is completely useless for this, BTW. It has no description at all of any of their games. Very poor web design.)

I should also make clear that I've not actually heard of any plans for BITS to do a ground miniatures game. It just seems possible if Power Projection does well.

Warhammer and Warhammer 40k
have an incredible stranglehold on the market in that even in my little town of 100 000 I can find 20 players at the drop of a Rogue Trader anouncement.

Good or bad Their rules have aged and been refined nearly as long as Traveller's have. And Their Game universe is well known among gamers.

HOWEVER, I also find their monopolistic attitudes annoying. I'm not going to start insulting companies again here but... suffice to say I'm thinking bad thoughts. The only army I currently play... really like... is the one with plain simple humans equiped with pseudo contemporary (the tanks are like 1920's vintage hybrids) gear.

I Would LOVE to play a Traveler based game. especially if it allowed me to repaint or otherwise recycle some of my current miniatures.

In the meantime. I'm tempted to make a homebrew rules set allowing Traveller-esque battles using GW miniatures. However, I suspect this will be a... personal and lonely pursuit. If I want to really play miniatures. For the forseable future it's going to be Warhammer.

I've only played Dirtside a couple of times and it's probably best around the company/combat team level. (4-5 platoons)

I've not played Stargrunt, but reading the rules it seems like a platoon level game would work best. It suggests starting off at squad level to get a good feel for the rules.

My impression is that it would be fairly straightforward to produce Traveller organisation lists for these two games. There is a 2300AD site with DS listings for 2300 vehicles, the name of which escapes me for the moment.

Trader Jim, I would buy a game such as your proposal. I like tactical games and I don't care for miniatures -- they take a lot of space and I dislike the trouble of painting them. However, I would really prefer a game with counters representing a squad or platoon. I think that a Traveller one on one game would be pointless as it can easily be replaced with the main rules. I've never seen Snapshot or AHL, so it is possible that I am missing some point.

I, too, would be greatly interested in a new Traveller miniatures rules set and line of figures. Stargrunt II rules are quite good, and GZG figures are also very well done, but something with a Traveller look and feel would be ideal (at least for me).

I'm of the opinion that there is no converting 40k players. I don't care for that system and don't play it, but I do play a lot of Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

I would like to see a set of rules that were skirmish level in scale, with each player controlling maybe 5 to 10 figures (ala Chainmail). With the current trend of small, almost portable miniatures games (e.g. MageKnight, the new BattleTech, and the DBA, DBM, et. al. historical rules) this scale could be quite marketable. Chainmail failed due to poor marketing and subpar figures (in my opinion).

Honestly, I don't see this happening anytime soon, unfortuantely. It takes quite a layout of capital to bring something like this to market, not to mention the enormous risk involved.

I'd settle for something similar to the new Axis & Allies games. Some detailed plastic pieces (army, marine jump infantry, apcs, tanks, and meson artillery) for the Imperium, and individualized armies for the zho's, solomani, aslan, vargr & k'kree. (I'd really like it if you could buy extra packs of the playing pieces separately. )

Isn't this the perfect group of people to set down the rules for "Super Striker"? What other group cares for and knows as much about the game? And will play when it comes out. Counters are not that hard to do, Print them out and glue to card stock, or use minatures. The rules for Striker can be updated with gusto by everyone here. Or am I out of line?
