System Mini-Yacht

Pocatello

you know idaho has "common law marriage" - a female spends >24 hours under your roof, the state says you're married. couple of our nuke trainees entered idaho single and left "married" ....

We were briefed about it before leaving NNPS in Orlando. (I did prototype at S1W) IIRC, the time limit was 72 hours in 1981. I met several "fleet divorcees" during my time in Idaho Falls. They'd scammed some poor schnook, got a ticket out of Idaho, quickly decided that didn't like Norfolk or San Diego, got divorced, and were now living back in the area on their ex-husband's monthly alimony checks - checks I should add the Navy automatically took out of his pay. I knew one woman who had her exes' entire chain of command typed out on a list hanging on her refrigerator.

Common law is surprisingly common and has as many different requirements as there are jurisdictions. Some states and provinces deliberately keep things vague. Oklahoma, for example, doesn't have a de jure statute but has government agencies who acknowledge de facto arrangements according to differing standards.

Given the so-called "marriage strike", growth of MGTOW, "herbivores", and what not, common law marriage is also making quite a come back as women and governments increasingly scramble to capture the male labor and assets they're "losing".

(nice adventure hook)

Very much so. :D

Imagine an IN or IISS training command on New Pocatello in the Olongapo system with tens of thousands of lonely young recruits and draftees constantly arriving and departing. Only naive fools wouldn't think that prostitution, badger games, a marriage "industry", and all the rest would be important parts part of the local economy. New Pocatello's government may not actively encourage such, but they're sure as Hades to passively support it - especially considering the amount of hard Imperial currency all those allotments would bring in. And, given their hands off approach to local issues, the Imperium isn't going to much care either.

Especially when the recruits and draftees are repeatedly warned about the New Pocatello's shenanigans.

It may not be a murder warrant which keeps that PC or NPC from crossing the extrality line. Instead, it could be something as "simple" as the former "Mrs." PC or NPC and her legal papers.

Q: What has four legs and chases cats?
A: Mrs. Katz and her lawyer.

I would probably have no objections.

... growth of MGTOW, "herbivores", and what not, ...

MGTOW? "Herbivores"? Did I miss a memo?

Yes, the Venus of Willendorf is the another "proof" often cited by the FA/HAES loonies. ...

Having crossed that threshold myself once, I might respectfully point out that this is going in a rather uncomfortable direction.

On a more objective note, the Venus of Willendorf is estimated to be around 25,000 to 28,000 years old and, as such, whether it proves or disproves something, or is intended to be allegorical or not, is a matter of some dispute. It is not unique. There are other statues of such age that likewise emphasize a rather distorted figure. Since they are typically found without context - without other finds or evidence that might explain their purpose - it's difficult to say whether they're something like a magical talisman to promote a safe pregnancy, or some deity image, or some artist's personal obsession.

oh all right. geez.

there. all pg.

probably get infracted anyway.

[m;]Nope.[/m;]
You get a "Thank you for cleaning up your own mess before I had to."

See, the lead admin guy was offended, and was thinking about it, but he's got this rule about "Don't infract for things that people fixed themselves before they were reported."

And yes, he is aware he's talking about himself in the third person.

Also...
YoSafBridge is cute, but she's definitely a psycho in seach of a guy with a yacht to fleece...

For such a system mini-yacht, I'd use as a basis the slow pinace hull:

Also for CT:HG TL12:

40 dtons config 1 hull: MCr 4.8
Maneuver 1 : 1 ton MCr 1.5
Power plant 1: 12 tons: MCr 3.6
Fuel: 1 ton (10 weeks)
Bridge: 4 tons; MCr 0.1
no computer
Owner suite (2 staterooms): 8 tons; MCr 1
2 small craft cabins (for crew): 4 tons; MCr 0.2
4 Guest staterooms: 16 tons; MCr 2
Free (cargo, etc): 4.8 tons

Total cost: MCr 13.5

Crew would mostly be stewards, though one of them should pilot it too (unless the owner wants to do it himself)

See that the pinace/slow pinace are more likely to find ships adapted to carry them

Double occ the small craft cabins?

Not needed. Two crememebers (stewards, one of tham also pilot) for two small craft vsbins. It's an option if you want to increase the crew...

I specced 3 SCCs for the LBB2 2 crew members listed plus one steward/servant.

Start hotbunking SCCs, you are starting to get into some ugly territory, more akin to WWII sub crews. Remember, even most warships at least have decks, access to fresh air, the sea to look at, etc. Most Traveller starships are more like nuclear subs, spending most flight time in jump.

The mini-yachts should spend the majority of their time in normal space, but still no fresh air or open deck.

I counted on 2 crewmembers (pilot and Steward, or two stewards, one of them with pilot capacity if it has not to move much), if none are needed, another option would be to use the cargo space for more small craft cabins.

The mini-yachts should spend the majority of their time in normal space, but still no fresh air or open deck.

Fully agreed, even most of it in a single planet, acting as house for the owner and his guests, or touring a system.

no email, no points ... great! I mean, darn! I mean ... whatever.

so as I recall regina is a gas giant moon, meaning there are lots of other moons in the system and thus lots of reasons for rider-yachts for all the well-connected sector nobility there. so there'd be lots of reasons for jump transport for these rider-yachts to knorbes and phlume, and also efate (significant industrial and military interests), roup (significant industrial interests and submarine tours), and possibly ag worlds dinomn and rech (haven't looked up the size and atmo codes yet). sounds like lots of opportunities for travel and intrigue corporate and political and imperial.

Share!

Please.

Well, since you said please I'll share a little though I am considering working it to the point to send to Freelance Traveller.

Since we're talking about modules. Suppose a society which except for a few special individuals has restricted contact with non-adherents to their philosophy. But their not just on one world but two in the same system.

After being recontacted by the local interstellar government [purposefully being vague for ease of use] they arranged for a module system to allow them to be transported without having contact with corrupting outsiders.

Now most times these are milk runs with no fuss no muss. But when the PC's hire on to do it...
