T5 0.9 Errata Thread

AS are exterior dimensions.

Many people have no clue just how big (and full) an airship is.

For items that would be carried as cargo, the shipping cube would be included. As for airships, length and diameter would be given as a matter of course. The same for aircraft with length and wingspan, and if the wings fold, the folded width as well, and if I have it, diameter of fuselage and wing area. For helicopters, length with and without rotors forward and rotor diameter.

Pages 711, 713, 715, 717 - Table 5 and table 7a incorrect abbreviations

On all 4 of these pages, in tables 5 and 7a, the tables list the abbreviations

lh = light-minute and lw = light-hour

These should be lm and lh respectively.

Page 405: System Stars, correction in 2nd paragraph

In the System Stars section, the second paragraph should begin "A system may have" instead of "A system to have"

Page 217

In the burden section, almost all of the entries that should be on the far right edge are shifted an inch or so to the left, making them look like mods to D3.

Pages 210, 217, 228, 236, 247, 260

The Users option is mentioned in many of the Makers but the details are missing from all Makers except GunMaker in the table on page 217. I recommend that the Users table be relocated to a separate page and referenced in all Makers.

The Weapon Users section on page 210 should be relabeled "Users" and moved to the same page as the table with a reference to it on page 210.

The Users section on page 228 in ArmorMaker should likewise be converted to a reference to the separate page.

A reference to the Users page should be added on one line to the ArmorMaker tables on page 236.

A reference to the separate page should be added to page 247 in VehicleMaker. It's currently completely missing any information except on the first page of VehicleMaker, page 243.

A reference to the Users page should be added on one line to the VehicleMaker tables on page 260.

62 Soldier skills table issue

on p 62 Soldier Character Generation, the new, sadly truncated version of Army Operations does not include Occupation as a possible operation. Therefore column 5 of table C Soldier Skills is never used and could be replaced.

I note also that there are 3 entries for Combat in the Operations table, two of which give Mod 2, and one gives Mod 3. Perhaps one of these is not supposed to be Combat after all?

TAS Life Membership less than clear

P 47 says "Selected individuals are awarded a TAS Life Membership
(for example, Award-Winning Scholar, Scout with 3 Discoveries,
Craftsman with three perfect Masterpieces, and
recipient of the Starburst for Extreme Heroism."
This needs a close parenthesis.

More important, this is the only place this is stated. It should also be mentioned on the relevant career pages, and on the medals page. Page 48's "Automatics" mention the TAS life membership, but make the eligibility less clear if anything.

On the subject of Mustering Out benefits, now that you have consolidated the tables on p 49, is it possible to remove them from the career pages, thus recovering some of the precious space you lost to R+R grids, and restore some of the more interesting possibilities for career events that were in print edition 5.0?

64: Rogue R&R and term skills unclarity

Say I am a Rogue, and in term 1, I fail my Risk roll, and end up with a one-year prison term. This is served at the start of term 2. The R&R grid makes it clear that my scheme may still pay off (though I get half pay).

The way I read this, in term 1 I get 2 term skills and 1 Failed Scheme skill. In term 2 I am in prison, but only for the first year. Do I still get 2 prison skills and no chance to hatch a new scheme? This should be clarified on the page or in the text.

Some mention of accumulating Fame (apart from when arrested) should be made on this page too.

512 Species Life Span table typo

p 512 Species Life Span near the bottom of the big table it has TL 25-26-26 where it should be 25-26-27.

414-419 graphics and forms issues

Some but not all of these have been mentioned already.

pp 415, 417, 419 graphics should be brought into line with versions on p.401, including labeling the lines demarcating the Remote System and the Oort cloud.

pp 416 and 418 do not have the lines for the Remote System and the Oort cloud either.

[already noted by someone else] p 418 does not have orbits 12 and 13 numbered on the graphic.

p 419 the table of occupied orbits is missing orbit 13, so orbit 13 appears on no fillform. Must be like American skyscrapers.

Finally, pp 414, 416, and 418 have big blank sidebars to the right of their main graphics. In print ed. 5.0, that had useful (if redundant) information about the location of HZs. Please bring it back! It was a good graphic display of the information, even if it takes a little while to see what you're driving at.

435 Populating World Hexes issues

P. 435 gives instructions for populating terrain hexes within a world hex where World Hex is Rough terrain, but instructions (and list of Available Terrain Types) on p. 433 do not allow for World Hexes classified as Rough terrain.

I find the instructions very odd with respect to things like Cropland and Rural as well. Why are these at World Hex level at all? They should only crop up (as it were) at finer scales, and generally be in relation more or less to settled areas. Wasteland as well: since it is a product of TL>5 I assume it is meant to be polluted ground. This should not be one spot on the globe with nothing in it, but occasional smaller spots near where people have screwed things up. Penal colony is also strangely gross in scale; most would be no larger than a town, or a city at most, when mapping.

Fifth/Sixth stage of Psionics

pp 535 and 540 give some confusing statements about the Five Stages of Psionics.

535:
THE FIFTH STAGE
The Fifth Stage represents the beginning of self-instruction
and self-directed improvement…. there is no formal instruction
or training: a Sixth Stage Psionic is an individual
who has received all training possible.
Some Fifth Stage Psionics make their abilities the focus
of their lives; others pursue other activities and use Psionics
as a supplement. Yet others organize their own Psionic
Institutes.
540:
THE 5 Stages of psionics
1 Basic Aptitude
2 ESP Extra Sensory Perception
3 ECM Extra Corporeal Manipulation
4 Ethics
5 Intuitions
6 The search for knowledge and power

This looks like "Intuitions" was meant to be edited out as a stage altogether, and was accidentally left in the table on p. 540, and one of the three uses of the word "Sixth" on p 535 was left in when changing all the others to "fifth". The other copy of the table of five stages, given on p. 530, confirms this version.

The Intuitions are also described on p. 528, but not referred to in the discussion of Psionic training. Elsewhere (under Skills) they are referred to without reference to their being Psi powers.

343-345 Diameter limits charts issues

2 charts on p 343, and one each on pp 344 and 345 have odd formatting issues with lines sticking out to the left. More importantly, they're a little unclear. It took me a while to parse S as being Space Range. So a key to that would be useful, or it could just be spelled out. Same with Orbit number (which is useful, and might be included on all the charts).

Ship Combat Cards

There are two copies of the Ship Combat Cards: p 315 (unnumbered) has both, then they appear again one at a time on pp. 318 and 319. I guess this is intentional, but it's unnecessary if you find you need the space for something else. Also shouldn't their TAS form numbers be different? T5-018 and T5-018s or something?

162, 676 Size/vision benchmark tables issue

On pp 162 and 676 the benchmarks given for sizes are fairly reasonable, except Coin and Eye, which are lined up as if they were an order of magnitude different, which would make for an incredibly small coin. The other versions of this chart (coin-cards-book-backpack) make more sense.

532, 533, 542: repeated D-R-S typo

In at least three places, "D-R-S" is mistakenly used in place of "D-S-R" in the Psionics section.

- p. 532, first full sentence.
- p. 533, first full sentence.
- p. 542, third line.

p. 564 S-12 Sophont Special Abilities.

Table B Column 2 (Talents), entry for Flux Roll +4 reads "Regen". Cannot find a reference anywhere else to "Regen" in the rulebook. Entry needs to be changed to another Talent.
