The EMG

[*]The air disturbed by the hypersonic projectile
[*]the partial vacuum collapse in the gas track
[/LIST]

The gauss round lacks most of #1, all of #2, and has almost none of #4...

and #3 can be worked around by making the round as smooth an airflow as possible.

Apparently the trick is to bring the airstream back together again smoothly, which is easier with a needle-shaped projectile than the usual blunt-ended bullet.

I don't have Striker.

You could get a copy off Ebay fairly easily or get an electronic version from FFE.

Striker is quite interesting for a few reasons. It takes Mercenary and expands it into a full miniatures skirmish system with rules to integrate it back into Traveller as a combat system.

It has an AHL-style combat system that separates hit and penetration. However, some weapons are quite OP for roleplaying in this system - even more so than in CT - so you may need to re-balance it a bit to make it useful.

The other major reason it's interesting is that it has a comprehensive design system for vehicles, heavy weapons and various other items. This still has a few balance issues but it's fun to play with and you can do good stuff with it. It's also considerably easier to understand than FFS.

It's interesting because we had AHL, but never used it much. I think we did a dungeon crawl session with the deckplans. One of our guys almost fell into the liquid hydrogen fuel vat ... which seemed curious that it would be of "open air" design (in retrospect at least ... I'm probably not remembering the writeup correctly).

I skimmed the AHL combat rules, and found them similar and different than both Snapshot and CT, and so dismissed them as another layer of complexity for a game that really didn't need it. I may check out Striker at some point. I keep hearing about it. Maybe I should invest in a copy.

But, truth be told, I just wanted to toss out the idea here to see what people thought. I guess it seems interesting enough, but it also seems like other fans have put up their own versions of similar weapons.

Oh well.

Thanks for the heads up.
