I am thinking of going into the New Era.....Lots and Lots of Stuff on Ebay...Question....Do you all
think the prices asked are FAIR???.....I know NOTHING OF THESE BOOKS......HELP, HELP!!

dont want to get ripped off----Thanx

No idea what the prices are on ebay but I have a complete set of TNE materials (not for sale) and just so you can compare, the original prices ranged from around $10 to $16 for the various sourcebooks. Fire, Fusion and Steel was $16. Smash and Grab was $14. I liked all the TNE stuff. Lots of detail (too much for some people) and good adventure ideas. Happy bidding and don't get ripped off.

I don't remember the URL, but there is a game store in Spokane, Washington, Merlyn's that has a fair amount of TNE and T4 products still in their inventory, and they do have an online store also. Let's see...nevermind, I did a check, and found their URL, here it is:

http://www.merlynsfantasy.com/

Anyway, this might be a place to try before E-bay, I've gotten some great bargains, but I've seen many things just got for absurd prices there too.

Ahh Jim....
The TNE Handbook is the big gun of the collection. Its laid out poorly (organization & art wise), but its collapse & world building tables are pretty decent, as are cargoes/ worlds to sell em on. & Encounters (space/ dirtside). I use these a helluva lot. Have two. One is about to come apart. Soft backed.)

Fusion Fire & Steel is the gearhead's dream (if one discounts the errata--check Missouri Archives/TNE for those (Yahoo Traveller webring)

Smash & Grab- a series of adventures in RC Area of Operations. Can be converted to stuff. (HAve run all of these)

Striker II, for those who like Striker, a bit more indepth...more detail (Have but do not use)

Path of Tears-seminal for understanding GDW-DN's version of the "Reformed Coalition". Lots of worlds and adventure hooks in it. A lot of gray areas the GM has to "fill in" too.(Dogeared all to hell and back, but still have it)

Boxed sets of Brilliant Lances (Small ship to ship combat)(YUS!)
Battle Rider (task force combat/ large ships)(YUS!)

world Builders handbook...for Post Collapse colony set up.(two examples adventures inside, plus thre "large ships for TNE-2ktn Frontier Trader (TL-14, J2/2G); Tukera Liner (3ktn, TL-15, J4/1G); AH hercules (TL-15, 5ktn,J-1/1G).
(Not a bad book, bit too indepth to detail heavy me)

RCEG (RC equipment Guide.) lots of weapons, stuff, ships, stuff, etc.)Neat to have. weapon pictures (firearms are shite tho)

Survival Margin (All the MT TNS storied clips from 1116-1130) and how to convert PC's to TNE from MT. A look at Virus, and intro to TNE included. (Seminal, came with boxed set of TNE-HB & FF&S)

Regency Sourcebook--How norris & BTC IMperials survived the collapse. (mine was stolen from me  )

Regency Vehicle Guide--Heavy metal tank-grav heads dream. (Still have)

Vampire Fleets--Seminal (three part adventure inside/ more stuff on rolling up Vampire fleet/ types of Virus strains, outlooks/ belief systems, etc.) A Must have look at the fabled "Vampire Highway of Diaspora (that part of the road from core to Sol Rim/ Cymbeline).

TNE-PHB, SM, VF, PoT, RCEG, S & G, FF&S, RSB, RVG are essential
StrikerII/ BL/ BR are for wargaming puproses as well.

Striker II, I have for collection set, but found too cumbersome. Save yer money on this. If you don't play in RC, then
RSB, RVG, TNE-PHB, VF (to understand what lurks beyond the quarantine zones in the NE Wilds") are Okay

PoT for adventuring ideas/ worlds...

Your choice TJ. Your Bucks.

Are the collapse table the same found in Hard Times?

No, alas they ar not, but if you've done the HT collapse, and then do the TNE-version, a lot of planets are survivable.
Errata, planets with D,E, & F atmospheres apply a -3 to Population, not immediate die off (from Missouri Archive/ TNE/ collapse errata. Also, with no GGs, many suggested (and I use) a -1 die modifier (or die for that matter) in the collapse tables--as most Vampire ships do wilderness refuelling. USl hulled ships need a vampire port (like Champa/ or Promise) to streamline themselves with for ocean refuelling. For simplicity, I took the total collapse number (say former TL-15 world, fallen to TL-3 from -3d6. Thats a drop of 12 tech levels. I divided the loss by 3, added back 4 to get TL-7 for that world. BUT...if the HT loss of tech had declined it to say TL-13, and thereby merits only -2d6 , with no GG, I used only 1d6 for its tech decline.

Generally, I've found the prices on TNE stuff on Ebay to be very fair. Also, you seldom have other people bidding you up on price, so it's fairly easy to win what you want.

To start, I recommend the rulebook, the referee's screen (really helps a lot!) and then one or two sourcebooks (Path of Tears or Regency Sourcebook, Coalition Equipment Manual or Smash and Grab, and maybe Aliens of the Rim Vol. 1 which I really liked, but I have more of a sense of humor concering TRAVELLER than most people on these boards.).

Guys, you missed a couple

Guilded Lilly is a TNE adventure set 1 subsector over from the RC area of operations and is okay but it is part 1 of 3. and the others were not finished.

Cheers
Richard

sorry for the short last post, got called away

Anyway Guilded Lilly is a pretty good adventure and could be used stand-alone but you probably would definately want to see it - it also details the Madoc Subsector.

Aliens of the Rim - bit naff, but a couple of Hiver ships, lot of the Hiver details is in the earlier aliems modules

Referees screen - all the useful tables etc. useful especially as the TNE handbook is a bit poorly laid out. It also has a little 4 page adventure set in the Covenent of Sufren at the Top of the Diaspora subsector + details of that Pocket Empire

Cheers
Richard

Thanks Richard P, I knew I forgot something! Dadgum GL module, and the Cov Sufren stuff. Me mind is gettin on..! ;)

Liam Devlin,
TNE-HIC

Speaking of E-Bay I found several "wish list" items recently.

</font>
  • King Richard Deckplans</font>
  • Tarsus Box Set</font>
Hopefully I will be winning those! :D

George

Seeker Gaming Systems has got the rights to the old FASA deckplans and are releasing them slowly via EBAY. There is now usually at least one of each set available at any one time.

They have a website seekergamingsystems.com
where they show stuff. They are also selling that Hotel complex maps.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Richard

I agree with comments so far on the various modules.
Although FFS is not perfect I would say it will get one thinking about other options in traveller. Also the Vampire Fleet book has the 3000t destroyer in it.

I saw the website for Seeker and wondered why they're not just selling through the website. Are any of the other sources for the old materials (king richard, etc) any good?

I've comtemplated getting the full set deals. The price is keeping me from bidding. :(

</font>[/QUOTE]The best one is 15mm King Richard Deckplans ending this Friday!

The trick to buying on eBay is to bid like you're supposed to - decide what the most you're willing to spend is, and then bid that amount. Be patient - eventually you will get what you want at the price you want to pay, assuming it's reasonable.

It's when bidding wars erupt that people get torched - $260 bucks for Talent Law, for example. Gaaah.

Me, I've gotten some fine deals off eBay - including a 1st Edition Chivalry & Sorcery for $20, and a whole load of Traveller stuff.

I currently have my eye on the King Richard deck plans, as well. Plus a couple of other things.

I should add that I'm *not* bidding on the King Richard deck plans that are up now, out of deference to George - just keeping an eye on the auction.
