TL equipment changes in the 3I?

Maybe there is reserved freight space the 3I is already paying for. Maybe the 3I has very long term charters on large shipping and may as well use it (see the US Marines Blount Island Command).

It's still hugely inefficient to ship by the indicated route. Costly enough that Akerut could charter a jump-3 freighter to do the job and still, well, not come out ahead, but lose less.

In any case, this contract was negotiated separately:

"Ashkashkur's chance comes when the Imperial Navy contracts with Akerut, a Tukera subsidiary, to carry a pair of naval meson guns and the computers used to control them from the Navy's base at Imthe to its base at Aramis. He arranges for the ship carrying the cargo, a Hercules class transport called the Titan, to pass through Zila on its way to Aramis." [TTA:20]
That route requires the Titan to make nine jumps and cross three two-parsec gaps. The alternate route through Rhylanor is also nine parsecs long, but only requires crossing two gaps.

You are right. Something is wrong with the deal. Even if there is some sort of civil air reserve fleet type arrangement where the nevy has to contract for some portion of tonnage...

Unless other considerations came into play. Did someone need to gross tonnage figures to lobby for a starport upgrade on part of this new route?
