TNS Breaking News

Far Stars; Makon's World

Date; 212-1101

Sporadic reports of clashes between Droyne units and K'Kree expeditionary forces are unconfirmed. The two species have never been natural enemies, or at lest no more so than any relations any other sentient has had with the K'Kree, but hostilities have reached a new level in this unsettled reach of space.

Reports of piratical forces and other mercenary units (licensed and non-licensed) being hired and employed by Droyne holding companies are unconfirmed. Since this region of space is beyond Imperial purview, the Imperial Investigative Agency has seemingly kept a hands off attitude, though leaks from the local duchy confirm Imperial Naval intelligence is actively gathering information on what could be classified as a private war.

Droyne metropolitan centers near the area are said to be seeing a new boost in the military caste, all the while construction of light combat capable vessels seems to have increased many fold. Again Imperial Intelligence and Naval Intelligence have kept an official hands off attitude, but local nobility with private forces are expressing concern, and have asked for Imperial Naval reserve activation.

As usual, there is little news forthcoming from K'Kree space other than the usual pacifist rhetoric often espoused through official K'Kree media outlets. Independent journalists operating in K'Kree space do report a heightened mobility of both merchant and military forces being directed coreward from the K'Kree's coreward holdings. Large mainline units are reportedly massing in several key districts.

All indications are a power struggle for a large empty track of space that appears to hold no value. But the IISS is not so sure, and continues to send deep probes with scout vessels to ascertain independently what might be the cause of tensions in the Far Stars sector.

More bulletins as events warrant.

Milagro/District 268 (1632 E21171A-7)
Date: 121 – 1111

:alpha: Following the sovereign debt crisis the Milagro Bureaucracy imposed on the system and the subsequent collapse of the economy, the process of moving Milagro Mining and Minerals to become the de-facto government of the system is complete.

:alpha: The process was made smother by Ling Standard Products taking a 25% stake and Hortalez et Cie taking a 10% stake in the company injecting much needed capital into the companies reserves.

:alpha: The new CEO of Milagro Minning and Minerals, Antje Bomkamp, instituted the new apprentice scheme and workers share save following Board approval yesterday, while the head of corporate security Didrika Staebell today denounced non-employee wild cat strikes and said that the full force of Milagro Security would be used in dispersing the protests.

Solomani (Terran) Sphere / Harlequin / Arkiirkii
Date; 053 - 1121

The upsurge in a new so-called Pro-Terran movement was made manifest today when what was supposed to be a peaceful demonstration turned into a small riot just outside Sol party headquarters in down town Payasq. The sprawling metropolis saw wide spread disturbances of demonstrators and rioters taunting authorities and exercising what they claim was their peaceful right to protest.

The protests turned violent in a number of areas, notably on the upper level of arcologies networked together, putting a strain on local law enforcement and first responder resources. Fires and broken windows were in evidence as smoke billowed from several major metropolitan complexes.

The Pro-Terran movement has its origins in an offshoot group of the pro-Solomani movement that splintered away some ten years ago, stating the the pro-Solomani leadership was fractured and ineffectual in moving forward to liberate Earth from the Sylean Federation.

The Pro-Terran organization has often called itself "The real Solomani" movement, but nomenclature has fallen out of use by members in recent times.

Reports of shots and gun fire were evident, but no casualties or damage from any weapons was evident.

The Pro-Terran leadership has issued an official statement citing the recent economic downturn for which they blame Imperial tariffs.

This has been F-N-N.

Reports from the coreward fringes regarding unexplained catalogued stellar phenomenon within the Alan Hierate are only now reaching Imperial space. Reports are sketchy, but an initial survey response followed by a miliarty summoning of local clans has been verified, but reportedly are ineffective.

A local clan counsel was said to have convened, the result of which was to make a formal request for help from central clans.

The report also includes an formal request for assistance from Imperial and Solomani research teams with expertise in astrophysics.

The report also makes an off handed speculative remark regarding Darrien solar technology, but was dismissive in tone.

Reports of systems being quarantined by clan elements while other systems are completely abandoned are rife. There is a strong tone and element of danger and worry as several suns have gone nova in this remote coreward subsector.

Some experts have dismissed this as a unique instance in the law of averages, while others have catalogued a pattern and state that the events may also follow a distribution form congruent with a distribution of stars from a stellar nursery many billions of years old. Other minds suggest it may be an artifact of of ancient technology, while more speculative minds state that there is a conscious plan behind these cataclysms.

Clan information ministry reports unusual findings around Meshaelos 7, a unique jovian body that lies on the outskirts of a local system in District 112, System 847502.

Findings reference some form of life presence actually thriving on the surface of this massive body, but nothing concrete. Pressures, wind speed, chemical makeup and crushing gravity would seem to destroy all natural efforts to allow simple molecules to duplicate one another, but reports indicate strange constructs and anomalous patterns appearing beneath the surface of the planet.

No effort has been launched by clan authorities, and clan research is mostly poised for discovery of habitable worlds, putting this scientific curiosity low on the list of things to investigate.

The report is at least six months old, so some effort may have been launched since then to extract and discover this oddity, but no word is forth coming.

Imperial travel notice, Mische Conglomerate mining Burukanß Glimmerdrift Reaches
1114

The system Spirit of Orla which sits along a major trade route into the Glimmerdrift reaches is reported to have an organized band of pirates operating within it. Reports from small trade line ships and far traders indicate that the pirates are using a satellite of 6GG, believed to be 6GG25E, as a base of operations. The lack of any advanced society in that system makes it possible for them to operate unpoliced.
Their usual motus apparandii appears to be to lure a ship in claiming to be a local government vessel wanting to board to inspect the ship and charge a fee for refueling from one of the system gas giants. The later is a common practice for J1 and 2 vessels.
Pirate ships ranging from approxmately 100 to 400 tons in size have made attacks on vessels trying to refuel from all gas giants in that system. This indicates that several vessels are in use there by the pirates.
It is recommended that all vessels entering the Spirit of Orla system be very wary of any ship that attempts to close on their vessel. There are no government or legal authorities in that system with space capable ships at this time.
Attempts to remove the pirates have failed as no nearby systems have the naval forces to place a permanent presence there and it is outside Imperial space.

Milagro/District 268 (1632 E21171A-7)
Date: 179 – 1111

:alpha: Following almost two months of protests, strikes and unrest Antje Bomkamp CEO of Milagro Mining and Minerals gave a press conference appealing for calm within the population. She acknowledged that the measures taken to relive the sovereign debt crisis the former Milagro Bureaucracy had imposed on the system and the subsequent collapse of the economy had been difficult for everyone.

:alpha: She continued that the drop in the number of jobless was a welcome sign of recovery along with the increase in mineral exports to the Imperium stating that an export lead recovery in combination with cost reductions of fundamentals was the only available option for the Milagro System if it wished to stay viable.

:alpha: Upon questioning about the protests against the 25% wage cuts where 15 protesters were killed by corporate security Ms Bomkamp responded that necessary force had been used in protecting habitats and against aggressive violent protesters for the benefit of the whole population and that following a corporate inquiry the board had endorsed the actions taken by Didrika Staebell.

Touchstone, Rimward Leading, Great Rift
Date: 053 – 1102

Scattered reports of Droyne on Droyne warfare are spreading. This vast, remote, sparsely populated region of space, has had little to no formal surveys conducted. What little data there is has been transcribed from Droyne databases and high-powered interferometers.

Reports of fleet movements are sketchy and unconfirmed, but a trade and regional conflict seemed to have stemmed from neighboring sectors. Again the actual source of the conflict is unknown, but Droyne fleets have clashed in deep space.

These engagements are largely inconsequential, but raises an extreme curiosity as to why a relatively harmonious racial stock would wage war with one another. Minor skirmishes are not unheard of, even minor wars, but the scale and remoteness of this particular conflict, even given the lack of natural resources, has local authorities puzzled.

Imperial Naval Intelligence is largely uninterested but maintaining a database on all action. Similarly united clan exchanges of information see this conflict as a curious and uneccary internecine warfare among Droyne "tribes".

In unrelated news; spacial anomalies in Touchstone are on the rise. A travel advisory has been posted.

Crucis Margin, Trailing, Free Space between Imperium, Two-Thousand Worlds and Hiver Territories;
Date: 142 – 1108

Reports of derelict vessels floating among the spacelanes are increasing. Possible piracy has been all but dismissed as said vehicles cargos appear to be intact. Said vessels show no signs of forced entry, and ships logs reveal nothing as recordings appear to stop during routine operations.

The Imperial Navy has delegated the task of investigation to the IISS, whose own researchers reassure that during times when ships go missing, there's bound to be periods when some there are more missing ships in some regions than in others.

The IN is not persuaded, but does not see the current anomoly as any real strategic threat of anykind. At best the Imperial Navy speculates that pirates may have found a new way of hacking security codes. But again local navy, guard and law enforcement units of all sorts state that no valuables were taken, and indeed entire cargoes go untouched during these events.

More far reaching speculation lays fingers on newly contacted races, or more likely K'Kree units on deep patrol. Even more imaginative thinkers in the IISS have postulated natural phenomena, or left over technology from ancient times that might have caused crews to have vanished.

The Terran government seems to be unmoved and uninterested in the reports at the present time, but the Hiver Federation has shown great interest, and dispatched a number of research teams to the stricken region of space.

At least one vessel was said to have revived its operations before jumping out, never to be heard from again.

Reavers' Deep, Leading, Virshash, Imperium;
Date: 184 – 1102

The Amalgamated Union of health workers in the far metropolex of Askarah, have proposed not volunteering anymore of their personnel for mercenary ventures, even at strong suggestions of rewards for the homeworld. Deliberations have been long and oft times tedious with no resolution as to whether ethnic Virushi or honorary members of their society will hire anymore with military and paramilitary units.

Such a maneuver would adversely effect the most trusted supplier of medical personnel for mercenary units, Lakon Limited Partnership, who provides most of the medical personnel for an assortment of industries sector wide and beyond (including Darrien, Sword World and other client states of both Imperium and Consulate space).

The Union has served with neutral pride in combat and demilitarized zones, offering their services when resources prove available. A number of worlds and large metropolitan areas have offices and run charities for Union services, often trying to politicize Union affiliation, but for naught.

Other Virushi medical units are currently deciding whether or not a trend of not "cleaning up" after human international conflagrations, as interstellar conflict continues to quietly rage among the lesser states with flotillas and landing forces skirmishing throughout the more lawless regions both Marches and the Deep.

Avereguar, Sector A2215T-P, Trailng, Qnevtal, Hive Federation;
Date: 226 – 1112

The Hive Federation admitted today engaging in action with an unknown force originating from deep in the coreward regions bordering their space. Hiver fleet elements have been severely mauled, but are rallying against a force that uses a mixed class of vessels, and seems to have deep strike capability beyond current Imperial standard. Some estimate a Jump-8 capability, but more realisticially this new adversary is capable of just over what would be considered a jump-7 rating, and perhaps that's being generous.

Nevertheless it has proven to be a strategic concern as Hiver forces rethink strategy of how to engage an unknown enemy that can outdistance their best mainline elements.

Said adversary is currently non-desrcript, and usual Hiver negotiation tactics have proven to be ineffective. When asked to comment, the Hiver national spokesman at the capitol refused to issue a statement regarding anything that wasn't in regards to their military, specifically the Federation navy.

Rumors of the Federation formally and informally requesting assistence from the Imperium and Two-Thousand worlds are unconfirmed, though there is strong evidence to suggest that Droyne and Solomani fleet elements have moved in response to Hiver negotiations.

The Solomani Confederation has acknowledged that a few border squadrons have deployed as an expeditionary force, an done to cement good will between the sometimes hated Hiver Federation. Forces are unconfirmed, but reports initially tell of Terran Class BBs and several CVBGs. When asked about such a significant force deployment, Terran Federation spokesperson was at a loss for the justification. SolSec said they were looking into the matter.

Qarlax-2276, Sector Unknown, Date: 306 – 1101

A strange warp anomoly is travelling in our region of space. Flora on most worlds is decimated. Ecological disaster has occured followed by a declaration of a state of emergency. Survey teams sent to investigate the phenomenon have not returned. Naval units sent to investigate are overdue and presumed lost.

Distant observation reveals some form of organization inside this strange formation, but no contact has been made as yet. Request assistance from Protectorate High Command.

One contact emerged from formation. Diamond shaped, with a red/orange circle that seemed to represent a sun just aft of two inset windows. Upright bipedal species occupying vessel... unknown.

Initial attempts to communicate have failed. Vessel itself was destroyed, presumably with all hands lost.

Formation seems to have entered a nexus of somekind. Will attempt to track.

Please advise.
The previous intercept is dated 100 years ago, emerged recently in Margaret's realm. No point of origin is known. Data regarding the information is being sifted by key experts.

Gateway / Glimmerdrift Reaches
129-1114

The Duke of Ley, Flavius Jovian died while on a visit to the system 025-841 in the Thorstone Sector, Glimmerdrift Reaches. He was officially there to review Imperial naval forces and tour Imperial military bases in that system.
Several well placed local officials who refused to be named have said the Duke was actually engaged in secret negotiations with persons involved in the highly illegal purchase / trade, of what are often called euphemistically, pleasure companions and indentured servants from parties outside the Imperium. The Duke was well known for his 'appetites' in the exotic and there were frequent rumors he kept a harem. It is also rumored he was engaged in a number of other questionable activities that had attracted the attention of the emperor himself.
An on going investigation into his death has generated a number of questions including the distinct possibility he was assassinated. Several law enforcement sources have made statements off the record that this is the case. There is also a rumor that the Grand Duchy of Stoner is involved in his death as the Duke was an outspoken critic of that splinter empire.
One source close to the Duke says he was last seen meeting with persons in private who are connected to the highly illegal sex slave trade.
More news as it becomes available.

Far Stars; La-Lande 2789-90

Date; 202-1101

FLASH...

The IISS, against Imperial Naval Intelligence advisory and warnings, has revealed a planetary based energy geyser gushing out massive amounts of hypercharged stellar ejecta from deep within its core.

Initial surveys of the world showed nothing more than a typical planet with no atmosphere, and an apparent iron nickel makeup. Classified as La-Lande 2789-90, the planet held no interest for even the most rudimentary of interests. A Zaleph class IISS survey vessel, initially sent to gather routine atmospheric samples from local jovian bodies and samples from the systems three asteroid belts, found its course coming fairly close to the planet in question.

Upon a close high-orbit pass part of the world seemed to be embroiled in caldera activity. The crew gathered visual imagery and other data as a matter of routine procedure, when an hour later the surface surrounding the volcanic activity erupted. A brilliant blindingly white beam, roughly the diameter of a large metroplex, shot from the surface, and currently is sending a long beam of energy and hypercharged material into deep space, Galactic-South.

All reports are preliminary, but the IN has moved to cordon off the system.

FLASH...

A Far Trader class merchant as been spotted transiting jump 100 DUs from jovian body. Said merchant has been fading in and out of jump space for the last two hours. Registration appears to belong to a private party; a family run proprietorship offering private cruises; the "Felung Group", vessel name; "Mistral Star"

Sporadic Signal-GK's are sketchy at best. Any vessel in the vicinity is requested to move in and assist with a rescue.

WARNING; vessel has not fully transited into normal space, and keeps fading in and out. Advise Caution.

146 1114 War Erupts in Sosie Subsector

The Farreach Margravate and Loyal Nine Worlds Republic have again gone to war over border and economic disputes. It is reported that the long disputed ownership of the system 577-592 has been at the heart of this latest conflict when Farreach forces retook the system from the Loyal Nine Worlds.
Fighting has again erupted in both the Shoehorn and Ushu system as well. Both systems, long suffering the effects of intermittent war, are said to be particularly hard hit with many refugees fleeing both.

It is recommended by the TAS that this area of the Sosie subsector be avoided and that any travel to the Farreach Margravate or Loyal Nine Worlds Republic be done with extreme caution.

Flcant/Vilis/Spinward Marches XXX-XXXX

:alpha: Kingsland Regional Government has released that the privately run Sir Malcolm Reilly Correctional Centre will not be made available to the Planetary Government for use as an Asylum Seeker Detention Centre. Flcant Planetary Government Immigration Spokesman has stated that they had no intention to approach the Kingsland Government on the Issue.

:alpha: Sir Malcolm Reilly has not hosted an inmate in over eight years and is now only staffed by Grounds Keepers, Facilities Maintenance Personal and a small Non-Correctional Security and Administration Staff, since the discharge or transfer of the last inmate Sir Malcolm Reilly has cost the Kingsland Government Apx. 14.5Mcr per year.

:alpha: The Sir Malcolm Reilly Centre defaults back to the Kingsland Government at the end of the current fiscal quarter, the Kingsland Government plans to mothball the facility at a cost of 20Mcr instead of spending 150-200Mcr and five years to modernise and renovate the sight to once again host inmates. The Correctional Services Union has come out saying that it is not good enough as Correctional Places are already at Critical Levels and many High Risk Offenders are receiving early parole in attempts to Alleviate over-crowding.

:alpha: The Kingsland Police Union has released confidential Police Service Documents that revel that Corrective Services are delaying the intake of convicted offenders in attempts to abate overcrowding, some Offenders serving short Remand Sentences it has bean revealed have bean serving the entirety of their sentences in overcrowded Police Watch Houses, that are not intended for intermediate let alone long term housing of Offenders. The Police Union has made claims their are significant wastages of Manpower with Officers diverted to Watch House duties instead of Front-line Policing and significantly depletes police Monetary budgets as figures gained through Freedom of Information show it costs the Kingsland Government between Two and Three times as much to house convicted offenders in police watch-houses as it dose in a dedicated correctional facility.

:alpha: Flcant is a major stopover for Asylum Seekers fleeing Garda-Vilis to other locations in the Imperium claiming Social, Financial and Cultural Oppression by the the Vilis Planetary Government and Asylum Seekers fleeing the Federation of Arden, every year thousands of Asylum Seekers transit through Flcant and although most continue on increasing numbers are choosing to resettle on Flcant, many with higher Tech Level educations than the native Flcant Tech Level, it is expected that within a decade the Flcant Population and Tech Level Codes will have to be amended to a higher rating.

Far Stars; Edurande 9054a-B54

FLASH...

The IISS has stated that one of their larger scout vessels, the Stellar Zephyr, has been reported missing this vicinity after a routine world survey. Edurande is a lush world with forests, jungles, and vast oceans. There are few arid regions, mostly just outside the arctic circles.

Said world is reported to be rich with species of various sorts. The Zephyr reported she was skimming fuel in her databurst to a passing X-boat tender that jumped just as the Zephyr's tanks were filling up.

The IISS is strapped for resources in this vicinity, and treaty agreements limit their operations within Aslan space. All efforts to effect S&R are welcome.
