TNS

Is there a program that gives a basic plot that can be turned into TNS issue? I seem to recall there was a site that somethings similar, but was dice determined.

Sounds like a job for..... software geeks!

If someone can point me at the original dice system, I can throw up a PHP server-side page that will let anyone get a TNS entry generated. I might even throw up an input form that lets you specify location and date, then I'll produce the TNS output.

That can be my Xmas Present to the community, since the decompression calculator is now old news.

It's in various stages of construction. I need some time to get the proper disclaimer up (I've got a stand in for now...) and to make sure I seal off things that Marc and I have concluded are only okay for my local gaming group (as they do include some segments of rules text). Once I've secured the bits that aren't suitable for net-general-release, and once I've wired in things like my decompression calculator page (which you can find by looking under software solutions -> decompression calculator topic on CotI), I'll make the URL available for the whole thing.

Real life is just eating up most of my spare time right now....

I'll follow the URL you posted and I'll see what can be evolved. I may or may not implement exactly as the article suggests (depends on exactly how he does it). But it should, when I'm done, allow one to enter certain bits of data (some optional) and generate an associated random TNS entry.

In the long run, you could modify such a thing to read standard sector files from Universe or the like and generate TNS articles for an entire sector for a period of time. Sort of almost like a 'future history generator' in a way.

But that won't be in cut 1.0, whenver that is ready for review... ;)

Poke me if you don't see something in a couple of weeks.

Has real life still got you? :D

Real life still going like mad, but having said that, I've been working on the design/concept for this. Once I have that down, I'll begin coding it. No firm delivery date promised, but I am sort of chipping away at it in my few spare instants.

Granpa: I'll see if I can whip something together based on the TNS link. It'll likely be a standalone program though, but I'll send you a .zip of it after it's done.

Granpa: The program is ready. I need an email address to send to.

I've also uploaded it to eLibrary's holding area, but it may take a few weeks before it clears.

Glad to hear. I'm now looking into automating the T20 ship encounters tables, cargo trade rules, and world/system creation tables.

Also looking into a way to create raw 3-5 act adventure outlines randomly, possibly following a theme-based system (mystery, pulp, action, etc). Very little resources out there for this endeavor, though...
