Whoever, gets Transhuman Space, I would be interested to get a review.

My FGLS is not really proactive in getting new stuff. So before I would order it (and I think I might wait for the Hardcover). I would like to get a review. It is supposively at the printer which means anyone preordering would be getting it by the end of this week. Till then...

I usually check rpg.net for reviews. They print prety much eveything that gets submitted to them so for most games you get at least a couple of opinions.

------------------
I am increasingly of the opinion that RPGs are by the nature of their creation subjective phenomenon. due to the interaction between game designers, game masters, and game players all definitions, rules, settings, and adventures are mutable in acordance with the uncertainty principle as expounded by Heisenburg. This is of course merely my point of view.

now i haven't read it, but...

it's done by David Pulver. he does all the hard science stuff for the whole GURPS product line, like Ultra Tech, Ultra Tech II, Bio Tech, GURPS Vehicles, etc. so it should have a good grounding in hard sci-fi. also, the univirse is all sub-light speed, set all in the Sol system ~100 years in the future.

my only beef is it will also include a lot of bio/genitic engeneering stuff, so there will be a lot of furies and stuff. i HATE furies! other than that, it looks like it will be awesome.

i suppose i could run it without the genetic mods...

Thanks for all the opinion above... But, what I was hoping for was an evaluation from Traveller players of Transhuman Space when they get their copy.

Not to knock rpg.net but, I really would like to hear what Traveller gamers have to say about it before considering buying it.

WOW!!

Just saw Transhuman Space at my local FLGS. The artwork and layout are spectacular. After seeing this, I think I might succumb to the Jacksonian heresy. If only a tenth of the artwork could be appropiated for Traveller, I think we would have a product truly for the 21st century.
[Sorry Hunter, but you are going to face some stiff competition here...this is no Terradyne Mk II]

I am looking forward to the meaty reviews before buying it. (Plus, I heard that there is going to be a full colour hardcover edition coming out. Which will be even more spectactular). I was thinking that I might incorporate much of the Milieu into my countercannon milieu of pre-First Contact. It would also explain why the Sols have the monopoly on genetic research into 54th century.

ummm.. Kafka, I've been following Transhuman Space for about a year (don't have a copy yet, I'm trying to wait for the color version! :)) How exactly are you going to explain the superior tech of 21st Century Earth as opposed to the 54th?

One of the problems with Traveller (though I love the game) is the tech or lack there of. Long Nights ("Dark Ages") do not explain the low tech levels.

Note: The 21st century is hard enough to "guesstimate", much less the 54th!

Just wondering...

That is a problem, I agree. But, I speculate that in the future when spaces are so vast that technological development would also slow. Plus, given the dark experiments in Terra's past would make the 3I abhor genetic research.

Whereas, the Sols do not have such restrictions. However, the Long Night triggered the loss of scientific method, replaced by a type of relativism. Thus, the method of inquiry may lead many directions as each world tries to reinvent the wheel.

Ok, maybe I am too influenced by Fading Suns, but the interiors of Transhuman Space are really fantastic. I can only hope that some of the new style at SJG gets put in their Traveller line.

Got Transhuman Space yesterday. I'll write a more thorough review when I have read it through, but my first glimpses are positive overall. Given that I do *not* like wetware and gengineering that's quite good. There's more to this than furries. It's hard sci-fi, which (to me) is a plus, but might not sit well with your Traveller universe. It depends. This has a very different feel to it than vanilla Traveller and it certainly is, well, darker. Also you'll need at least some basic knowledge of GURPS to get full use of this book. Gotta go now...I'll be back.
