Traveller Advanced Base

Blackbat: veerrry interesting ... I wonder if there are any indicative layouts of these containers which give an idea of the amount of working space and equipment volume inside. By the way, I assume these don't include quarters? Personnel don't normally merit the same standard of accommodation as expensive hardware. ;)

Nope... in the field, personnel have tents.

Well, there was usually about 2 1/2' of electronics or open bench area, 3' of walkway, and 2' or so of open bench or storage cabinet... in the "single-wide" vans.

My double-wide had 2' behind the bench, 2 1/2' of 6' high, 12' long bench, and then 8' or so open space, then 2 1/2' of bench/storage. This was because I worked on a large piece (325 lb), that had to be wheeled around in a cart, lifted by a hoist, and placed on arms that stuck out another 2 1/2' from the bench-front. There was also a wheeled computer terminal, assorted other accessories, etc.

Of course! Why did I not think of Antarctic bases when I was looking for science bases??? An enclosed scientific/technical base with a small staff in a hostile environment.

I think I will now go off and search for some maps and plans. Great link, BTW, Kyron. Excellent photos.

What i took for inspiration about modular bases are some pictures from the Neumayer 2 Antarctic station which you can find here

..but I'll be damned if I can find any so far ... I am very impressed with the new revolution in Antarctic bases though, both the Neumayer 3 (due to be finished in 2008), and the Queen Elisabeth which is already in place:
