Traveller-esque Computer Games

Myself and some others are currently working on a MMORPG which will be very similar to Traveller. It not only feature spacefaring much like Elite and Freelancer, but will allow you to walk aboard your ship and on planet surfaces.

The game is still in very early development so thats all I can say for now. We are looking for help, if anyone has any game design experience or art background. This is a community project so it is on a volunteer basis.

Alien Legacy has a very Travelleresque feel, even though it is restricted to only one star-system; it deals with an STL colony ship arriving to a star-system which was supposed to be inhabitated (by another STL colony ship which was launched after it but was higher-tech and faster) to find it devoid of Human habitation. Strategic planning/managing and exploration ensues.

I still have my FRONTIER ELITE II for the PC...in the orginal box with all the books, map and novella that came with it.

early 80's...256 colors, DOS based, real-time vectored movement, top quality grapghics (for early 1980's)

it was my very first PC game.

I had Elite on the C=64. Loved that game.

There was a version of the game, may still be around, on the Palm Pilot called Void.

I had a dream last night I was playing MegaTraveller II but in full-on modern 3D. I was actually in the game though!!!

Where the hell did that come from!?

It is a command from Marc (holy be his name) to create it so others may know Traveller (holy be its name). Go forth and spread the word (oh, I guess you are, the power of dreams eh). Gather others to build his game so they may share in the vision!

;)

I found my copy of Freelancer yesterday - played it all day (and until half one in the morning ;) )
How good is Freelancer? it's going for £9.99 now and I've almost succumbed to the temptation a couple of times now. </font>[/QUOTE]Freelancer has a story line/plot for you to solve. After that you can adventure in the universe as you choose. Explore, fight (you are the entire crew no matter what the size ship) buy, sell, collect some free stuff, upgrade ships and components, etc. Try looking it up on the web. (Works for most modern games as well as some older ones.) You can get a feel for the game just reading the forums a lot of the time.

A modern version of the original Elite (ie, not the flawed sequels)

Graphics are updated a little, there are new ships, some new misions.

Best thing of all is that modern computers can easily handle a game made to run on 32k machines.

- vast fleets of traders or pirates or police etc.

- battles happen without you even being there, you just see laser bolts in the distance then come across loads of wreckage

Accept no imitators: Elite is still the best space combat/trading game! Now if only you could get out of that spaceship...
I tried this because I loved Elite on the C64, but I found myself spending 10 minutes just to move to the planet after jumping as close as I could, so I dumpted it. Is there a way around that problem? What about a manual on line?
