How good is Freelancer? it's going for £9.99 now and I've almost succumbed to the temptation a couple of times now. </font>[/QUOTE]Freelancer has a story line/plot for you to solve. After that you can adventure in the universe as you choose. Explore, fight (you are the entire crew no matter what the size ship) buy, sell, collect some free stuff, upgrade ships and components, etc. Try looking it up on the web. (Works for most modern games as well as some older ones.) You can get a feel for the game just reading the forums a lot of the time.Originally posted by Zakrol:

I found my copy of Freelancer yesterday - played it all day (and until half one in the morning )

I tried this because I loved Elite on the C64, but I found myself spending 10 minutes just to move to the planet after jumping as close as I could, so I dumpted it. Is there a way around that problem? What about a manual on line?Originally posted by Klaus:

A modern version of the original Elite (ie, not the flawed sequels)
Graphics are updated a little, there are new ships, some new misions.
Best thing of all is that modern computers can easily handle a game made to run on 32k machines.
- vast fleets of traders or pirates or police etc.
- battles happen without you even being there, you just see laser bolts in the distance then come across loads of wreckage
Accept no imitators: Elite is still the best space combat/trading game! Now if only you could get out of that spaceship...
