Does first edition Twilight 2000 use a similar combat system to Striker and/or Azhanti High Lightning?

I've got T2000 v2.2 and I love it as a general resource (along with Merc2000), but I'm not crazy about the rules. If first edition is more similar to classic traveller I may be tempted to give it a try.

'Fraid not.
Personally I prefer T:2000 v2.0. Never did like the d20 v2.2

The first edition Twilight 2000 rules system is basicly the Runequest/Chaosium Basic Roleplaying System. Skill levels from 0 to 100, role D% for less than your skill, skill multyplied or devided for harder tasks. Twilight 2000 second edition was similar dut everythins was devided by 10. Neither bore any resemblence to Striker or traveller. In fact, they conceptually the oppisite view to traveller. in T2K, your skill was modified dy the situation and your role then had to be matched against your skill. Whereas in traveller, the situation defines the target you are atempting to match with a dice role, which is then helped(or hindered) by your skill(or lack thereof). The above is probably a load of pointless waffling, but it might answer some questions.
