Not if expense of uplifts is cheaper than employing humans in the long term. The Uplifts can be be more efficent and productive, and company can save money on safety and compensation. Overall a bigger profit, even if the company lowers prices because the cost of production per item is cheaper because the company does not have to pay wages or pensions.Originally posted by Nurd_boy:

their development is expensive, time-comsuming and a major investment for a company to pursue.
the resulting uplift would be (at least in early production) to valuable to waste. Then factor in numerous rights groups that would surely spring up to protect these beings....I think, it would be more of a situation where the uplift had rights (to a certain extent), but, worked for a wage to the development company to pay off his creation cost (like an endentured servant or debter's prison) then, once paid off was a free citizen.
