Vargr Pre-Preview

I thought the antler comment was a moment of levity in an otherwise serious conversation.

You've got to be kidding me.

Antlers...and some people actually like Vargr with antlers.

I'm starting to feel ill in my stomach.

Well I think you should seriously reconsider the Vargr walking upright on just the balls of the hind feet.

While I agree on the points you raise (though iirc Vargr mass considerably less than humans, or maybe that was a house rule) it just wouldn't "look or feel" Vargr (uplifted upright walking canid) to me if they didn't walk digitigrade. I could easily live with either though.

Don't tell me this is degenerating ;) into a serious discussion. And I'm taking part?! :)

I still think I've seen that image or similar somewhere before. Some tome of deities or something. It's nagging me but I can't quite gestalt the source :(

I think they would dye their fur around their mouth and hands a bright blood red. Their teeth would be dyed blood red as well. If they want to appear to be menecing or frightening.

I like the dyed fur idea. Add my own of styled fur (Mohawk cuts, pattern shaves, etc.). But instead of dyed teeth I'd say grills (to use the currentish fad of mouth inserts) and bling would be very popular, especially among Corsairs.

I obviously agreed it was a joke even without the smileys. Smileys are fun though and useful. At work as a police officer, I wish I could have smileys pop up from time to time over my shoulder as I've got my serious face on, telling a dry joke, that a citizen let's fly over his head. Like telling a person, with a serious face, to "Get into the black and white one" when walking towards a line of.....several black and white patrol vehicles. They often don't get the joke and just look confused. I need a floating grav-driven smiley.

Love it. We're gonna have to get you lessons on smiling and winking at the punch line until someone can tech you that shoulder mounted holo-smiley generator :)

Surely it's a jackalope, wolpertingers have wings! :)
Whatever genetic material Grandfather ... eh, Grandneuter ... has used,
jackalope or wolpertinger, his aim obviously was to make the Vargr less
dangerous in close combat: With antlers and teeth, they are probably
unable to decide quickly which of their natural weapons to use in a gi-
ven situation, and so their enemies always win the initiative.

Or the antlers are a later natural adaptation for opening bottles of beer with limited thumb dexterity. :)

I always imagined Vargr as just smashing bottles against the edges of hard surfaces and chugging from what was left of the bottle :)

The antlers are an adaptation for zero-gee combat. When a Vargr sees a comrade floating away, they can't help but "fetch."

(The antlers pass through the hinged space helmet, which employs a greased labyrinth seal around the antler near the root.)

I dont like the antlers but the rest of the him looks good not the standard human with a Husky or german shepherd head. So I do hope those are a joke, as real close examination looks like they were added to a finished drawing. The tattoos are a nice touch, I could see vargr tattoos actually being a permanant fur dye instead of just on the skin like a humans tattoo would be. Looks like a tough critter to fight and would make a decent character.

Looks more like a Reindeer to me. Vargr should be very dog like actually.

But hey maybe the ancients did Reindeer too. We could call these:

"Reingr"

:D
