What do I need?

Hello. I played Traveller about 20 years ago and recently re-discovered my old boxed set of black books. I've run lots of RPGs, but never Traveller.

I recently tracked down a re-print of books 1-8. A friend on another board suggested I get Supplement 4 because of all of the Citzen classes.

I guess what I want to know is: what do I need to run a decent campaign? Tnanks in advance!

Welcome to COTI,

The entire Classic Traveller collection is available on 1 CD for $35 from Far Future Enterprises.

Try this page.

Good Luck,
Arthur

[In my opinion, you actually NEED the first three Little Black Books, some dice and an imagination ... everything else is just the cherry on top.]

recommend you start small, just a few star systems located in an area into which you might want to expand. grow your campaign, rather than try do do everything at once.

I'd recommend getting the short adventures reprints at the very least - although for a little bit more money you can get everything as atpollard mentions.

Death Station is my all time favourite intro. adventure for new groups. String a couple of the short adventures together, add the rumours tables from the first three full adventure books, and there you have a pretty good start.

Oh yeah, I will add my vote to getting the CD. On the CD, though, you will want to start with LBB1-8, Supp 4, and the short adventures. Follow that with the regular and double adventures.

I would also suggest the two EPIC golden age adventures you can get from here.

Fritz88, is that because the two EPIC golden age adventures are great or did you write them and need the royalties. ;)

yeah i agree 1-2 sub-sectors then develop
more later once you work out the kinks
otherwise it gets really tireing to go from
1 sheet to empire....

what i did was get the boxed classic again
and then i get:
1 adventure
1 double adventure
1 supplemment

at a time....work your way slowly into the game
that way....i do reccomend getting 1 adventure
so you can see what one looks like.

</font>[/QUOTE]Thanks for the link.

I noticed that someone there mentioned "Starter Traveller" and I was curious: is this the boxed set with the people on the box who look kind of like Battlestar Galactica warriors?

Starter Traveller sounds like a good thing to have...

Sounds like the one. David Dietrick did the cover art on the box.

Starter Traveller is 95% the same info as LBB1-3 or the Traveller Book, but that extra 5% can't be found anywhere else in Classic Traveller.

I'm glad I own it, but I could see someone being disappointed in it because much of Starter Traveller just duplicates stuff available elsewhere.

The Book 2 Space Combat, though, in my opinion, combined with Range Band movement, makes the book worth its weight in gold.

Just my opinion, though.
