What do I need?

At this point, if you want to use Classic Traveller, I have just one answer:

Buy the CD.

It has Starter Traveller, The Traveller Book, and Books 1-3. Pick the flavor you prefer and use it. Plus, you get Books 4-8. And all of the Supplements, Adventures, Double Adventures, Alien Modules and Modules.

Let me put it another way. On the CD, you get everything GDW published for Classic Traveller, except for JTAS. (Which will be another CD in a month or two.)

Quite frankly, it is silly to get CT any other way. (Unless you really want the hardcopy.) It just isn't worth it.

Just get the CD.

Does anyone know if the PDF files on the CD are such that I could copy and paste into Word? I'd like to be able to create my own GM screen and so on without actually having to retype everything.

If you have Adobe Acrobat Professional you can select type, I don't think the free Adobe Acrobat reader will allow you to do that.

The files might be locked though, not allowing you even to copy the text with the Pro version unless you have the password.

Yep, easy as 1-2-3 Finarvyn. The free reader will let you select anything, text and graphics, and copy paste them. The files aren't locked that I can tell.

Use the text select tool and you get the data (as text) but will have to manually typeset for tabular form, or use the snapshot tool and you can copy the tables as is (as a graphic).

Thanks. I hate locked PDF files because they're so limiting. I think I'll buy the disk!

Not locked. I was just copying and pasting text this evening from it.

Very handy disk.
