What do you LOVE about CT?

Just to be seen to be being impartial ;)

I loved the simplicity of the rules - you could build a starship without having to do shed-loads of maths;
The canon background wasn't "welded in" to the rules like later versions;
I love random CharGen. You never knew what you'd end up with.
And yes, when I Ref'd players rolling up their characters I enforced the the "fail the survival throw and the character *dies*" rule.
Cos I was a git like that, see....

The guy who sold me my first set of LBBs (in the box, of course) said:

"There ya go mate, a whole universe in a box."

And he meant it too. :D

Pretty much everything!

What I especially love is the fact it still has such loyal, die-hard fans even in the face of new systems (a fact which a certain person

on these boards often berates and belittles as being insignificant and misplaced).

The CharGen in itself is a game. I was always fascinated by the results - sometimes you'd get a really balanced character, good overall spread of skills, reasonable age, decent mustering out benefits.

Other times you'd end up with a character with Computer-4, Jack-of-All-Trades-8, Bribery-1 and a dagger. Or even worse (and yes, I did once roll up this character :( ) Broker-6 and Brawling-1.

Then there were the ones that died in generation....

CG as minigame.
Alien races that were written so as to encourage playing them as aliens, not simply physically altered humans.
Bk 2 T&C.
Characters that could fit on an index card and still be useful in play.
A sense of history but not a detailed history for each character.
Patron Driven Adventures.
Fit in a small bookbag.

Hiya ya'll
(That's country-fied for greetings down here, FYI)

Normally, you won't find me here (Down in CT-ville of these boards), but there were things good about CT too.

paragraph.gif
It was a welcome change from AD & D, and we could see some of the things of the future in it.

paragraph.gif
It was a whole Universe in a box, not one tiny world (with laws based in some reality, as opposed to total fantasy & magic).

paragraph.gif
It was faster to create a star ship, and a character could die, just in chargen! I love risk, so this was a winning point.

paragraph.gif
Starport bar-fights with complete strangers and then the SPA trying to restore order...the the IISS stationmaster bailing us all out of the clink..again! sigh

Nostalgia..yeah. ;)

1) Random chargen (great if you're stuck and don't have inspiration for a char/NPC in that particular day).
2) Simple, small, no-frills, down-to-the-basics; not over-complicated; quite easy to learn by people totally new to RPGs.
3) It encourages you to generate your own universe and your own material.

Random Chargen that can produce some fun characters I’d never have come up with on my on. The other 30 times it can be a right PITA, unless I’m doing short run or pad of character sheets campaign, esp. in CT core.
Having an option to not do full on random would have been nice.

A complete set of rules in either 3 short small books or 1 short regular book. I’ll take that anyday over having to get a whole line of books just to start playing. Granted looking at what’s been developed since (even right after) it does look meager in places.

Combat is lethal and strategy and tactics are rewarded. It’s the actual wording and procedure of base CT combat I have the problems with.

Skill based.

Miniphants.

Vilani and the minor human races.

That semi-truck of space, the modular cutter.

The snub pistol/revolver and the FGMP-15.

Miniphants
