Just to be seen to be being impartial
I loved the simplicity of the rules - you could build a starship without having to do shed-loads of maths;
The canon background wasn't "welded in" to the rules like later versions;
I love random CharGen. You never knew what you'd end up with.
And yes, when I Ref'd players rolling up their characters I enforced the the "fail the survival throw and the character *dies*" rule.
Cos I was a git like that, see....
The guy who sold me my first set of LBBs (in the box, of course) said:
"There ya go mate, a whole universe in a box."
And he meant it too.
