chose settings and linked adventures (associated with those settings). there is a crying need for setting development, not more sectors but pocket setting development such as lunion/strouden or the jewell subsectoor rhylanor/porozlo. areas where referees can start games in well-developed locales and get their feet wet before branching out into the larger sector and implementing their own ideas.

THIS. Fly is right on the money with his suggestion.

A Sector book is Too Damn Big. New referees and players get lost in the vastness of hundred of worlds. Like the donkey between the hay stacks, they cannot choose what to do or where to go.

A World book is Too Damn Small. This world may be interesting but it's a sci-fi game with a FTL drive, so why aren't we traveling to other worlds?

A Cluster book, however, provides a more manageable area to comprehend and explore.

Look at the Zyra Cluster in the Trin's Veil subsector for example. Eleven worlds, two Class A starports, three worlds with a TL of B, no others with a TL over 7, one world with a Pop code of B, no others with Pop codes over 6, only three worlds with X-boat links, two naval bases, and one scout base.

It's varied enough to be interesting and it's size is manageable.

Briefly mention how the cluster fits into the subsector and sector. Introduce the big players from outside the cluster like megacorps, nobility, the IN, etc. along with how they influence and affect the cluster. Provide details for the three "corner" worlds, Edenelt, Katarulu, and Hammermium. Sketch out the remaining eight worlds. Present several NPCs who are important within the cluster and no so much outside of it. Present several companies and other organizations who are important within cluster and not so much outside of it. Write rumors for each of the worlds. Write several amber zones linking two or more worlds together. Write three "B" side, multi-session, adventures. Write one overarching campaign.

What you'd be writing is essentially The Traveller Adventure-Lite. Instead of presenting an entire subsector, you're presenting eleven worlds in a jump1 cluster.

You're a great writer with a proven track record. This should be easy for you. ;)

I'm glad my suggestions may be of some small help.

As for that final sentence in my post, it happens to be the truth. Good writers and other content providers should hear or read similar statements more often.

During the heyday of the TML, there was a much commented on phenomena called the Black Hole of Quality. It seemed that truly useful posts crammed full of good content garnered few if any responses while weak, marginal, nonsensical, or outright trolling posts sparked lengthy reply chains.

The same Black Hole effect occurs here. Just ask Flykiller if you don't believe me. ;)

It seems we - and I'm a notorious member of that "we" - too often forget to say Thank you. So, thank you Dale for all your work.

Get many responses to those?

responses? very few. about half a dozen people have volunteered out of the blue that they like the erin, specifically for game use which means a lot to me. a few have said they like the events tables. outside of that, very little.

I track thread views, and I notice trends, and not just in my own material. abstract game environment material is popular, game preparatory material is so-so, and hard game use material is almost ignored. I've been tracking the imperial culture thread for some time now and it still is averaging almost 5 views per day - but I don't know if that's because of my world write-ups or because of the high-level noble politics heavily discussed there as well. probably the latter, as the two people who responded to a request for usage said they specifically DON'T use the world write-ups.

oddly enough, though I angered some people with my attempt to develop bulletin board in-system ship combat and no-one has expressed any interest in it since then, that thread continues to attract about 4 views a day even though I have no sig link to it. the corresponding ship-to-ship vector combat thread is almost ignored, even though I have a sig link to it. not sure what to make of that.

I'm assuming you are not asking for psionics reskinned, but a full on magic system able to do things like throw fireballs and turn something into something else, yes?
Yes that is correct. There are three licensed "Approved for Traveller" supplements out there involving "magic", but I felt something was missing...

My opinions the current products:
Strontium Dog - was not sufficiently systematic, too campaign specific
Netherell - psionics in another guise, but good campaign idea though
Flynn's Guide to Magic in Traveller - my favorite, best rules, still not suited to general campaign integration

Hmm. Naysayers, put aside the issue of the appropriateness of psionics (or magic for that matter) in a campaign using the Traveller Ruleset (T5.09 or MgT 1e or MgT 2e) because those fine supplements had a good go at it. Perhaps campaign integration is my issue. It certainly will not be OTU/Lorenverse/YTU/2300. But I still feel it is a valid concept.

Just thought I would say that I am halfway through my first linked adventure campaign and a setting location is not far from being published.

When you gents tell me what you are interested in, I listen.

typically I ignore other setting work because 1) I have so much of my own and 2) I'm out of time. but if you have a linked setting I'll buy it just to see.

Rusted Fang Station will be out early next year. It is set in Fessor Subsector, but no reason why you can't move it anywhere you want.

oh. kinda was hoping for spinward marches. yeah I'll look at it.

my recent attempt to do something with gudak has inspired me on how to approach pagaton, and if/when I finish that maybe I can do something with lunion/strouden.

Which does bring up an interesting question that I have had in the back of my mind for a while. Those that are using my Foreven Worlds material, are you reskinning it for the Spinward Marches or are you using it in Foreven?

Back in 1e I set my works in Foreven because I didn't have a choice. Now I do. Would you all be more interested in me delving into the Marches instead of Foreven, especially since Mongoose appears to have gone for the Trojan Reaches instead?

you might want to start by asking if it's being used for games at all or simply is read as tourist literature. could affect the kind and level of work you put into a product.

Would you all be more interested in me delving into the Marches instead of Foreven

you could make that a poll. some people will want new material for old settings, but others will be reluctant to replace all of their existing work (or vague ideas) with someone else's.
