My current game started at the Scout station at Glisten - 1 player had mustered out with a Scout ship, the other player a lab ship. As to not have 2 ships off the bat, the Scout ship for player 1 is crashed on a red zone system outside the Imperium, the lab ship is basically paid for up to that point as there are some oddities at that system GLIPS wants to look into.

So they started out in an office. The one time I tried to get them into a bar fight they managed to not get into a fight (they have a few interesting NPC crew/scientists so I can nudge things along as necessary).

So sadly, they did not all meet in a bar in Startown...and yes, I did borrow the plot for the Scout ship.
