Where is the Spinward Marches?

Mithras

SOC-14 1K
I'd like to point to the sky and tell my players, 'thatsthe Marches, there'. I know its 'to the left' of Deneb and about the same 440ly distance.

I'm just looking for a star or two, but an open cluster of the appropriate age would do (at least a billion years old). And I'm not bothered about exacting astronomical accuracy either. A rough approximation will do....

Any suggestions? AFAIK there is nothing in cannon beyond 'Domain of Deneb'.

My players are my sons. I like to use visual props in my game ;)

Are you taking them outside at night and pointing to a region of sky? If so, then the constellation of Sagittarius would be the 'correct' direction, since both it and the Spinward Marches ar somewhat coreward of Terra.

On June 21st at midnight (don't adjust for daylight time) look straight up/out if you can see the Milky Way. Then (if facing South) about 1 degree to the left (spinward). :D

Ha, good call. Coreward? Looking at this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stars_in_Sagittarius , there's plenty of stars between 450 and 600ly away in Sagittarius.

Looking at that list, the only star 'in the Spinward Marches' visible from Earth would be Pi Sagittari ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi_Sagittarii ) an F2II triple star system. The star's name is Albaldah. I'll have to locate it in my base subsector!!
