Where to find ships?

You'll have to forgive me. I'm barely involved with Traveller, though I'm trying to dig into it further. What resources are there for information on ships including deck plans?

Mongoose Traveller, Gurps and FASA have deckplan products available. Some of the 3rd party vendors also have deckplans.

If you check the polls we recently did a deckplans discussion.

Some of these are at drivethrurpg.com and others are on CDs at Marc's website FarFuture.com.
There are also many free website's by referees with deckplans (see the Imperial Starport on COTI). Be careful your looking at Traveller compatible plans. There are many out there that just produce plans of ships for profit.

If you can buy stuff; CT book 7 "Traders & Gunboats" is a must-have, IMO, and my personal favorite book (even if some of the ships do not follow the rules all that closely). I also recommend GURPS Traveller "50 ton Modular Cutter"...and if big fleets is your thrill - CT Supplement 9 "Fighting Ships" & if you can find it the "Azhanti High Lightning" boardgame (a 20,000 dton light cruiser in 15mm scale!) For smaller warships, but bigger than book 7; the "Broadsword" and "Kinunir" and "Leviathan" adventures all have and 800+ dton ship detailed.

My all time personal favorite, however, is Navanad's excellent rendition of the 800 dton Mercenary Cruiser;

Something I have done IMTU (In My Traveller Universe) has been to import starships from other non-Traveller SF games as non-player character vessels or just help fill slots and bays at starports.

A few good sources to browse are obviously materials from Star Trek and Star Wars, nice selection of freighters and transports in both settings, the ships from Firefly-Serenity work well too.

Lesser known RPGs such as Dragonstar, Rogue Trader, Alternity/Star-Drive and Space Opera offer unique starships but don't expect any to be considered 'canon' or even transferable into the Traveller setting for character use, that said such vessels do make lovely set dressings for adventures.

Hi,

Try drivethru rpg for downloadable deckplans. Not a complete list by any stretch:

Scrying Eye do an excellent CE Gazelle and Hunting Yacht.

DSL Ironworks have some interesting products for Foreven Sector.

Moon Toad publishing have the Lune Freelancer

For an ATU look at Avenger Enterprises/Avalon Games

Kind Regards

Hi,

I don't want to hijack this topic, just hitch a ride on it.
I've a similarly novice-like question that's related.

I'm after rules for designing starships. The only ones I've seen are in the MgT core rule book. They seem okay but I would've thought there'd be more detail.

Are there any more?

MGT Book 2 High Guard adds some additional rules - both for larger ships, and more options for extant sizes. Whether Bk2 is good or not is a matter of opinion; the large ship design procedure leaves some cold, but others like it.

Yep. Thanks, that was what I was looking for. When reading through one of those supplements listing ships there were things like 'stealth jump' and rapid-cycle jump listed and I was wondering where the details for those were.

The problem is each book adds new equipment, so Aslan has Shrine of Hero's Darrian has Brigs, Sword Worlds have Cramped Barracks, Scout Advanced Probe Drones & Sensors, TCS Spinal Rail Guns and other options... There is not a single consolidated list of all the options. Perhaps HG2.2 is required...

Also several existing plans have inaccuracies, it's best to put the figures in a spreadsheet and check them yourself before using.

Kind Regards

Just my unsolicited 2 Imperial Credits (2Cr) but the rules of most of canon Traveller materials do seem to support starship construction in two distinctive but separate methods, naval vessels and civilian ships.

That said, perhaps a more expeditious 'cheat-sheet' in the way of a webpage-based generator for ship construction could be attempted by one of the board's more savvy members.

Sounds like a good idea to me as well.

"Each book..."? There's multiple Mongoose ship design books? I got zero Mongoose - Mongeese? Mongi? - so this is new to me.

There are ship components added in several of the "Books" - Book 4 Psion includes a bunch of ship equipment. Book 6 includes a few new items, as does Book 7.
