Which is the canon Vilani font?

Maladominus

I found two competing "Vilani fonts" on the Internet.

The first is just called "Vilani" and "Vilani Sanserif". They are fonts uploaded to this fLibrary. I have them, and they do look nice. But are they authentic, or just fan fiction material?

The other is called Bilanidin.... tho I cannot yet find an actual download link that works. I hate broken site links.

Aaaanyways. I want to know which font is the TRUE canon font? Anyone know? I only want to use the Vilani font that has actually been used by the creators/publishers of Traveller.

I used Bilanidin until recently, but I've now discovered it's full of errors. Avoid it.

Vilani Headline is the correct one.

Less formal are Vilani Standard and Vilani Serif; these are also correct.

Vilani Optimum has a few errors, as does Ruuraakh, so avoid these.

I believe that Bilanidin is the font used by DGP.

The fonts in the fLibrary are used by FFE.

Ruuraak was intended to be another jambo. I'm not sure what ended up on the 'net.

Well one could argue that after thousands of years different dialects have sprung up with slightly different alphabets. I forget who said that a language is just a dialect with an army and a navy.

I see...
Bilanidin is a Solie plot!
By intentionally distributing a messed up alphabet via the Ine Givar they hope to disrupt communication within the Imperium! I knew it all along , really I did.

That's a very old version of Ruuraakh, I think. It's name should have been the giveaway (no proper Vilani word ends in 'kh'). Throw it away.

The link to the website works fine.

The link in that website pointing to the actual download of Bilanidin truetype font does not work for me. Never has worked for me. Tried three days now.

If anyone can repost or upload the font to another server, I'd appreciate it!

Maybe because it's an ftp, Maladominus? Cause you're right, it doesn't work for me either here. (Can't do ftp through the firewall...

I initially saw the .ttf extension and didn't actually try to save it. My bad, Maladominus.

Here. Bilanidin Bold and the "release version" of Ruuraak.

Ruuraak is not trivial to use; it requires a little bit of fancy footwork. Use it like this:

Initial consonant of a syllable: type the capital letter. For 'KH' use 'H'.
Vowels are identical, regardless of case.
The "long" vowels are mapped as follows:
</font>
  • aa: use "o"</font>
  • ii: use "j"</font>
  • uu: use "w"</font>
Final consonant of a syllable: type the lowercase letter.

For example, Ruuraak can be written in two ways:

Rwrok (Rwr + ok) -or- RwRok (Rw + Rok)

And Makhidkarun can be written like so:

MaHidKaRun <-- note the 'H' for 'Kh'.

It's a messy mapping.

Additionally, the letter 'V' maps to the Vilani eclipse.

Here are a couple of Ruuraak examples.
