Who Plays MGT And Loves It?

Han just shooting Greedo made him the ultimate cool dude. Cool dude's have to be nasty - Josey Whale was cooler cuz he spat t'baccy juice on the dog. James Bond is cool cuz he kills random strangers then makes a crass pun.

Han letting, or waiting, for Greedo to shoot just makes him a big girl's blouse (just like Darth Vader in EpIII).

The fact that Han shot first helps to define his character as tough and cold and 'mercenary' which makes him coming back at the very end that much more powerful.

making him 'nice' weakens the story, imho

Hi all, long-time lurker here. I play Mongoose Traveller and like it a lot, it's my favorite system for sci-fi and modern espionage/adventure gaming. The system isn't perfect, but it's simple, fast-playing, flexible, and easy to prep.

The Traveller Universe could be anything. Anything you want.

That's one of the things that drew me to MGT - the rules are really just a toolkit, there's virtually no setting information in the main book. I'm surprised at how much discussion around here revolves around the Third Imperium, and that there aren't more homebrew-universe threads...

I'd like to see Mongoose publish more generic toolbox material that can be inserted into any setting. Maybe a big aliens-animals-monsters book, a generic starbases/starports book, more deck plans, etc.

Thanks Mongoose for the newest version of Traveller!

:)

Hi nightlamp, now you have made your first post the next few hundred will be easy ;)

I remember when all there was to Traveller were the 3 LBBs in a box, Mercenary and a load of stuff by Judges Guild.

Homebrew was the way to go then.

I like the way MgT is trying to go back to that generic system and i would also like too see more homebrew universes.

The reason why the 3I discussions predominate is that over the past 30 years of Traveller the setting and the rules have become so intrinsically linked by the majority.

The supplement I would most like to see MgT do is a variant tech/alternative TL tree book.

I can keep making stuff up myself of course...

Hello and Welcome, nightlamp. :)

Yep, this one would be on my list, too, as well as the variant tech book men-
tioned by mike wightman - although I hope that the Central Supply Catalogue
will contain some stuff of that kind.

Homebrew universes and Third Imperium ... I never used the Third Imperium
as a setting, for various reasons I always preferred other and usually home-
brew universes.
However, earlier versions of Traveller were married to the Third Imperium for
several decades, and the "divorce" Mongoose has started is neither easy nor
quick.
Besides, it takes time to write up a homebrew setting, and also to post it in
a comprehensible way.
But I am quite confident that we will see more of that kind of material in the
not so far future.

Nightlamp,

Welcome to posting. :)

I'm very interested in you campaigns, especially the espionage/adventure campaign. I used CT many years ago to run a pulp campaign set during the 1930s Chaco War and I believe that among the many good things Mongoose is doing for Traveller is the intention of returning the rules set to it's somewhat generic nature.

There's been little talk here about using MgT in anything other than OTU or near OTU settings and at the Mongoose forums there's little talk about using MgT in anything other than the other released settings like B5, Slammers, Dred, and the rest. That's why I'm so interested in you espionage/adventure campaign.

If it wouldn't be too much work, could you put together a paragraph or three describing the campaign and how MgT worked in it? You could then post this in a thread of it's own here in the Mongoose forum so it doesn't get "lost".

Please don't fell obligated, but you're the first person I've yet met who had used MgT for something other than sci-fi.

Regards,
Bill

I am enjoying Mong Trav very much thank you, and I would love to see a Pulp action campaign book using the Trav rules. Anything with some Nazi's to foil, or a lost world with Dino's lots of stuff could be put into a 200 or so page campaign book. I would order one just so I dont have to do all the work of writing out a campaign on my own. Just think doing stuff like Indiana Jones or the phantom. Exploring the Lost World running from and killing Dino's. I remeber all the fun I had with Pulp Hero from hero games. Ton of fun that was.

Welcome. Nightlamp!

Vance reference? We can always use more Vance fans. :)

Jacqual-some of the mechanics used for the Judges in the Judge Dredd book may be what you're looking for for pulp hero types. Judges use multiple dice for some throws--take a look at the preview. I'm probably going to pick it up for the new mechanics and the other new ideas, though I'll probably never run a Judge Dredd game. I just gotta take a second mortgage and a third job so I can afford CSC and Hammer's Slammers, too. ;)

I run MGT, nowadays, in preference even to the World of Darkness. I recently saw the JJ Abrams Star Trek, and thought on seeing the way they've rewritten it: "This is the Mongoose version of Trek. Start from the same base, then muck up everything about the setting but the core thing: the player characters. Then tell the audience that now, anything can happen."

As a long term Traveller enthusiast, it's hard for me to refuse anything Traveller. It's such a huge place, with endless possibilities that, to me, makes the necessity of 'reboot' moot. It's just a matter of perspective.
I own MGT and really like how it was put together. Even Out of the Darkness represents an interesting of 'framework' to play with for games beyond the Virus-thing-whatever.
So yes, I actually really enjoy what Mongoose has done for Traveller, and what little I have played was as good as anything else that's been published. IMO

I rather like the game, but I haven't had the chance to play it yet. I did manage to get my players to roll up characters, and they thought it was great, although we found we had made a few mistakes on the first run-through (the order you take the steps in character generation is important).

Sorry for the somewhat belated reply. Thanks for your interest, I'd be glad to write up a little something.
