Vehicles for your Traveller games

One thing I like to do, no matter what rpg I'm playing, is provide visual handouts to help guide and fire my player's imaginations. During my last Conan game, I went to Google images and printed out all sorts of ancient castles and neat terrain from around the world to fit my game. I showed my players weapons, city streets, fields with shoulder high grass. There's some really neat stuff out there. The net is a GM's dream.

For Traveller, there's all sorts of pics you can find. But, don't just focus on the drawings and illustrations. There's some neat real-world stuff that looks futuristic enough to be used in a game--especially when the players visit a world with a lower TL than real-world Earth.

I typed in "futuristic vehicles", as an example, and I found some neat images to show to players:

The speedcar, a type of speeder air/raft design...

"As you leave the starport, you notice that there are hundreds and hundreds of these little bubble cars scooting about. They seem to be the world's main type of transportation..."

Your rented groundcar looks like this...

There are no sentient police on this world. The entire policing force is composed of robots, governed by a master computer. The police bots come on various shapes and sizes, some specialized for certain tasks. But, the usual unit is the unibot, a type of generic patrol bot. Be careful. It is armed with both lethal and non-lethal weapons, and as all police bots, it maintains constant contact with the main computer (that is also jack into the satellite net and the ground camera network).

That first one is pretty freakin' sweet!
You can tell most concept car designers live in nice sunny places that have never had a snowdrift or temps below a balmy 75 degrees Fahrenheit. ;)
There's no way in hell that thing's gonna plow through midwinter snow in the Twin Cities! :oo:

It is, of course, a concept car in real life. But, look a it sidewise, with a little imagination, and it's a skimmer, like in Blade Runner, part car, part flyer.

So, it should be able to fly up and over those snowdrifts.

Just mix up the controls for your players that will confuse them enough. Gas and brakes are on the dash hand operated the steering is like the rudder of an aircraft with your feet. Front wheel drive rear wheel steering. They will be baffled.

Video games, man.

This is exactly what video games are for. They teach to you to think of vehicle controls in different configurations. BTW, nice mix up, I will...WHAT WAS THAT?! *points behind you*

*and the infamous Idea Snatcher strikes again*

Grrrrr.

That's why we post 'em. Part of the appeal of this place is the virtual reality equivalent of a bunch of GMs, sharing a pint at a pub, discussin' what works and what doesn't.
Have to take all the fun out of it don't you.:p None the less, I suppose you are right.

An odd thought came to mind....well rather than hijack this thread I will go and start my own. Ack, more work. :D
