Based on Milleu 0:Actually the Third Imperium feels more like the British Empire then all of those empires combat mentioned. Though it is caste-based rather then ethnic based. Being Sylean doesn't seem to have an overwhelming advantage the way being English did in Imperial Britain. At most being from Sylea(or Vland, or Terra for that matter) is just an interesting subject for a Noble to bring up at a ball.
That was probably different at the founding.
Solomani families seem to have dominatedImperial politics for the first few centuries, with the Vilani megacorps/nobles slowly gaining power and influence. There was still prejudice among many Solomani nobles towards 'lesser breeds' like the Vilani.
Later on, the Solomani Movement involved many Imperial nobles. It had real power at court, centuries ago.
Maybe I'm just not an Anglophile, but the Brits were pretty nasty to a good chunk of the world's people for a couple of hundred years. It amuses me to see 'like the British Empire' paired with 'lighter shade of gray.'

700 hundred years of oppression in Ireland, brutal wars of conquest in India and Africa, the Opium Wars, trying their level best to hang Jefferson and Washington....not exactly the 'good guys.'
