Ok, I am toying with Inkscape this afternoon, mostly building up a cheat sheet of Sybmbols for further work.

The question is with the spiral staircase one square or 4?

My mid-1950s house includes a spiral stairwell to the downstairs basement/garage, in a 45" (1.14m) square footprint (interior dimensions of that square). By my state's building code, it's "decorative" and can't be counted as part of an an exit pathway for fire code purposes. I can't imagine trying to use it while wearing a TL-8 vacc suit... it's as much a twisted ladder as it is actual stairs.

Stretch it to 59" square (1.5m) and it'd be residential building code compliant, but still a bit cozy if you're wearing a bulky suit.

At 3m diameter, it'd be easy (but take up almost as much space as a linear staircase).

Kinda along the lines I was thinking.
