2320 progress report

I notice that the art for the cover is yet to be decided? Do we want to take a poll about the best 2300 covers...

My vote would be for the original Traveller 2300AD cover, as my first choice followed by the Nyotekundu sourcebook, reflecting the Hard SF heritage of the milieu.

How about some sort of montage so the cover of the Kafer sourcebook can be included as well.
Laying out all of my T2300 stuff there are some excellent covers, Mission Arcturus and Kafer Dawn are another two I like.

Gakk! I hated the cover of the Kafer sourcebook. It didn't look like a Kafer! It had a nose, the eyes had visible corneas and pupils and the mouth part was all wrong.

I'd vote for the cover off Colonial Atlas, myself. I always liked that Mammoth.

I liked the cover of the 2300AD boxed set and that would be my first choice, with the cover to the TRAVELLER 2300 boxed set coming in second. Baring that they should go with a black cover with the 2320 AD logo in the center in gold, maybe superimposed over a stary field. They should NOT commission a new cover painting as the paintings used on the T20 book and the T20 screen both suck big time. QLI has a very bad track record with cover paintings and should avoid using them whenever possible.

I thought 2300AD's covers were frequently rather awful (a shame to the game, actually), so I do hope QLI can produce something better.

If I have to select three particularly silly ones, I'd take

-Nyotekundu. Look at the planet and the ring system. What does the ring orbit, and why does it look like that? Terrible, and in close competition with "Invasion" a good choice for Worst 2300AD Cover.

-Colonial Atlas. Most strikingly, the terminator of the planet. Hint to would-be 2320 artists, take a brief look at photos of real planets before doing such artwork.

-Aurore Sourcebook. Look at the horrid black-white moons in the sky. It could maybe be partially defended with some intricate assumptions about a near-Tithonian eclipse (otherwise why would they look black?) and a distant focus combined with some very weird lightning, but still...

I kind of liked the cover to "Operation Overlord", though. And "Ranger" had a bit of a naivistic touch which also was kind of cool. "Ships of the French Arm" is kind of nice too, it is at least cleaner than the other space covers.

This is the cover I've been using for my play tests. Most of the art is by Laurent Esmiol, with the ROTONS belonging to David Pearson. The rest of it is my fault.

Almost anything by Laurent Esmiol would be fine for a cover. Whatever you (Colin, et al) choose for the 2320 cover (and interior art), please keep the hard SF look of previous 2300 editions.

BTW, how much will you revise the tech (e.g. to include the advances in personal communications etc.) and will you include a star map in 2320?

Very nice.

And the playtest or release dates are...

Didn't you say sometime around the end of this month? Is this still a realistic target or is it going to slip?

NIce, what world is on the cover.
Since there's a beanstalk and it's not Terra, I'd say it's Beta Canum - the only other world to have a beanstalk, IIRC.

As of 2302, BCV-4 is beanstalkless too, and it doesn't look like BCV-4. It isn't Kimanjano, or Beowulf, or Doris. Hmmmm.....

I like it, but it needs more of the human touch. I'd like to see people (and Ylii, Kafers, Pentapod drones etc.) on the cover.

Like I said, it's my cover simply for my own playtests. It is in no way shape or form official. Yes, it needs people. And the world in question is a random one, created by Lunarcell. I haven't had time to gun up a 3d globe of Tirane yet... :D

Playtest dates will have to wait unitl its finished, and QLI has looked it over. But soon, yes, soon.

May I ask why? Like I said, this is not an official cover, but I am curious as to your reasons.

Do beanstalks go straight up from their planet? Cause if so, like, shouldn't a line extended from the end of the stalk pass through the centre of the planet?

Not that I'm an enormous nazi. I thought the art from 2300 was the coolest thing in the world, and I still do.

Think all the computers should do that slow blinking readout from the start of Aliens frex.
