2320 progress report

I have a chainsaw, a shovel and 10 acres.
Do not trifle with me. ;)

Just editing stuff down now.

Colin, to help you out there is one of the last issues of Challenge Magazine (the all Traveller issue) that has done all the conversions to Traveller of all the 2300AD worlds.

It's Challenge #75 [the big TNE All-Traveller release special] on page 58.

But it doesn't have all of the systems - just what would be the "core subsector" on a traveller map.

Seeing as how the Arms turn back on themselves, parts got truncated.

French Arm is intact out to Kimanjano, Crater also shows up with no direct connection to anything.
American Arm goes down to Clarkestar, with the Vega-Red Speck - Ellis branch curling back into view.
A bit of the Chinese Arm is there - Cold Mountain and Daikoku are the last two systems.

No problem, glad to help.

It might be late for this, but I do have a question for Colin if he's around:

Way back in January you mentioned that you were hoping to work on the "Revison of Earth and Tirane information":

Did some of the populations figures get changed, or did the 2300 numbers just get 'aged' twenty years? [I've always considered north america rather under-populated you see...]

Jon

Population values simply were aged from 2300. Some adjustments were made, but not many, and not to North America. Is there room for adjustment? Maybe. But I see no need for it either. Manchuria and the CAR, on the other hand... But I digress.

Still hangin' in by the skin of my teeth...

The writing is pretty much finished. Now the editing begins.

Yippee! Now its just 175,000 words to wade through... ugh...

Any news of a playtest yet?

Or a proposed release date ;)

Nope and nope, sorry. They won't even be looking at that until I get the manuscript into their hot and sweaty little hands. I've got a bit of work to do yet. At last count, I had over 215,000 words. That needs to come down, more than a bit, really. Ideally, I'd like to see that around 150,000. Now where do I pull out 65,000 words...

Well, it probably won't be 65,000 words, but it will have to slim down some. Much like me, I guess. ;)

Colin
2320AD writer, and kinda irritated at his word count right now.

Colin,

Have you considered looking at what you can pull out for a TA or two in support of the 2320AD sourcebook? At least it's a way to make decisions on what to pull out of the main text, and still provide a way to present the material relatively intact.

Just a thought,
Flynn

Now I have never been a game writer, heck I have a hard enough time just writing out scenarios for my players, but Colon, are you like getting paid by the hour to write this thing or what?
I keep waiting for something even just alittle tidbit, a character sheet, a 2320AD lite, or possibly just a little thing similar to the D20 Modern rules posted online.

I started playing 2300 shortly after joining the military and I just retired so I think it's been long enough.
P.S. Of course I am just kidding Colon, I remember your comment about the 10 acres and the chainsaw and shovel.

Actually, I'm paid by the word, so you can understand my reluctance to cut any out. At the same time, I don't want this to be a huge, out-pf-price-range book, either. It's a dilema. Currently, I'm back to editing after taking abreak of a week to go on vacation with my family. So I'm exhausted.

Good luck with the final editing -

Btw, what population are you using for Doris? *Please* tell me you're not sticking by the Colonial Atlas' "about 300 families" twenty five years after settlement?

Jon

Doris? Don't you mean... oops. Wait on that. Have to get approval first.
ECS and CA disagree with each other, so I have a population of 650,000 for, ah, Doris.

Colin, 2320AD writer
Is not a fan of the name "Doris". I mean, the Brits get "Beowulf" and Canada get "Doris"?! But I digress.

Hey, if the colonists have a coup to change the name, so much the better! I'd rather not have a planet named after somone's Grandmother as the colony...

LOL! It kinda makes you think of a scale:

Colony Name "Name Coolness" Factor
Beowulf 10
Beta Coma Bernices 9
Austin's World 8 [more if you're Texan]
Kingsland 6
Doris 2
Paulo 1

"Paulo" is at least the name of a city in Brazil. But "Doris"? Anyway...

I have about 2 more evenings of editing to do, a little bit more writing, and some cracking of the whip on those people working on vehicle designs. I expect to be done, done, done by the end of the weekend.
I'm still kinda scared by what my word count is looking like, though.

Nothing more to see here, move along.
