52 Weeks (or, how boring is JumpSpace?)

[Engr] "How the hell can anyone be bored in jumpspace? Unless you like being cooped up in the ship when docked or planetside you might want to spend that week doing preventive maintenance on everything except PP, JD, and external hatches. It's the only time the junior crew members pull their weight."

On a commercial ship, you also have passengers who just spent more than you earn in 2 months for you to keep them amused for 1 week. I've been on a cruise ship and the captain is always hosting dinners and social events - part of the job.

Obviously, the steward is working his tail off, but I would imagine that if the captain is required to dress up and play host, he will make sure that no lesser crew member is just sitting around bored.

Imagine 180 days of uninterrupted free time to indulge in RPG with no real-life constraints and no guilt trips about what you ought to be doing instead.

Bliss!
This is probably the real driving force behind Imperial development of High Level AI - the need for a first class GM who can referee all day and create new adventures all night.
