I've got an evil plan for a weapon that can channel all that energy into a weapon of some sort.
A super-sized plasma or fusion gun, or an x-ray/gamma ray laser; perhaps a PAW or meson gun.

One of the key issues that no one has mentioned from the current plasma research is containment. The description of the research very specifically states that heluim usd to create the plasma is contained.
Absent a hard shell containment for the helium(or other gas used as a medium), there will have to be some other electromagnetic method of containment. Add to that the fact that said method must survive until the fired plasma contacts the target. so now your targeting computer and fire control system must be able to calculate a "Time to Live" for the electro magnetic containment. And your "gun" needs to produce and shape the containment, create the plasma into said containment and then project that combined projectile at the target accurately in combat.

This is not to say these issues will not be solved in the many centuries seperating us from the ficticious Third Imperium... This is just to say that this technology is less "hard" than it seems to be taken...

what I would like to see...

A light saber handle with enough battery power to do the job...
an injector feeding from a small helium container attached to the hilt of the light sabre handle...
A plastic envelope thin enough to not be noticed and rough enough not to shine, that inflates as the Helium is injected...

and the existing cold plasma tech used to create a plasma "blade" held in by the plastic sheath so that when you turn it on, the Helium is injected as the plasma reaction starts. and when you turn it off, the injector sucks the helium back into the containment(while the vacumm also sucks the plastic back) with the plasma reaction maintained until the helium is completely recovered.

while this would have nothing but a visual effect, it would really be neat to be the first person to walk out into a crowd of fanboys and activate what "looks" like a real light sabre. It would ahve none of those plastic extendig tubes or an ever present light ssytem that is visible(and heavy and expensive) even when the device is off...

If I had the specs to the existing generator, this could likely be done today
