Exactly what is it, as I plead ignorance?

A Tradition that erupted in the US Army and US Airforce in the late 90's, but which starts (documentarily) in WW II with "Squadron Coin" issued by one CO to his pilots.

In units which issue them, if a member is at a bar without his, he's buying a round.

Commander's coins for higher eschelons are common, as well, as a reward. Higher eschelon commands generally have a CO and an XO coin, which is given as an "Attaboy" for something not worthy of a ribbon, but still deserving public recognition.

I recieved number 045: Bn SGM (SGM S6), Headquarters, Sixth Battalion (Jump Troops), 4518th Lift Infantry Regiment

On the list there's an Eleventh Reserve Battalion (Anti-Psionic) - I wonder if the other battalions make 'tinfoil hat' jokes about them.

Hmm.

Are electronic psionic jammers a thing? I don't mean the iconic psionic helmet, but something like an area Psionic Damper?

There's that "PKF" again.

Did we ever decide what it stands for (also appears on the Invasion Earth countersheet).

Note: Assumptions/extrapolations valid IMTU only:
I assume that if you can make a helmet work, you ought to be able to shield an enclosed space (Quonset Hut, starship hull, etc.) from outside influence. Further, as the helmets aren't fully enclosed (and in any case, can't provide 360⁰x360⁰ coverage since they aren't surgically installed) it may be possible to affect a non-enclosed space, and perhaps do so at some distance. For space combat, it might be possible to project a psi-shield onto the hull of a hostile spaceship (if only by using a projector that's a missile payload, if the devices are range-constrained), blocking the occupants from using psionics against you.

On the other hand, something powerful enough to suppress psi effects at a distance might also interfere with non-psi thought processes as well, and be useful as a "stunner".

Back on topic: I've seen serial-numbered Commanders' Coins, and collected a few career-field-specific coins myself over the years.

;)

When I was in Colorado Springs stationed at Ft Carson 85-87, I got one from my Platoon Sgt, for a job well done, while we were attached to another Battalion for a Field Training Exercise at Ft Irwin.
[It was a Challenge Coin from the other Bn. unfortunately I have no Idea where that coin went. We were still out in the dirt when I got it.]

Then while in Korea, I got one from my CO in 1988 for a particularly tight shot group as a Designated Marksman.
A good friend of mine served in the AF 78-82 knew all about them as well.

Wiki says that 'Reward' Coins may go back as far the Romans.

This is a nice addition to the Traveller Game.

I got my 1st coin in the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry in Korea in 1985.
Second came from the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry at Fort Carson in 1987.
Third came from 2nd Squadron, 11TH Armored Cavalry, Camp Wildflecken, Germany in 1992.

Go Cav!

Well, nice SNCO billet there.

And not if they're smart they won't. Consider the ways in which one must combat a psionic and then realize those are some freaky, weird, and probably dangerous folks in that unit. Also, since there is still an Institute in Regina...

Nice collection. Oh, and while it is nice to know the Rangers still lead the way in the future, I wouldn't be telling folks that they are also the unit with time travel.

I really need to get me a couple of these for my meatspace folks, but other things have precedence.

EDIT: Another thing, since CotI now has a Resident Herald of the College of Arms keeping the rolls for the nobility does anyone one want to volunteer for being the Deputy Defense Minister for Personnel and start the Rolls of the 4518th LIR?

The Regiment is the spear tip of the nation. Who is the resident Herald?

They've gotten pretty common across DoD. I scored one from the Joint Strike Fighter Program Office ten-ish years back.
