Deck plan, furniture layout ?

I realized back about 1971, when I came up with this ship idea, it probably wouldn't get drawn completely.

Maybe I can get more of it done than I have so far.

try a vignette approach. do a dramatic movie-poster outer-view, then deckplan only the important spaces, or examples of the important spaces, within the ship. the bridge, a boat deck, a troop deck, a few weapons stations, a few cargo spaces, etc.

I was working Sunday evening on a 1000 x 800 foot command area, on top of the upper dome. Even at 8000 x 7000 pixels PNG output the consoles and chairs look like tiny things that would fit on my thumbnail and have room left over. Looks like I'll have to break it up further so the detail can be seen.

This particular set of rooms will be monitoring not only the Starship Wanderer's course and hazards outside the ship, but internals such as air-conditioning, water, heating, atmosphere, elevators, etc.

The monitoring area is 278 feet by 100 feet. Symbols just look too small. So I'll have to zoom in so to speak and make the map larger for each part of the command area.

Or it just be my eyes. Could be a combination of both.

The thing you need to do first is set the scale for your furnishings. In my drawing 15 by 15 pixel squares equal 1.5 by 1.5 meter squares. Once you have determined scale other things will fall into place.

I think my maps are to scale, not sure yet. But when I make maps that are large, things tend to look small in the map. Could be a combo of my eyes and the scale. The templates I'm using are scalled to make Traveller scale maps.

I'll double check.

I used CC3 to place a square grid of 6.09 feet, or 1 meter on the deckplan. I didn't use a metric template. The consoles are scaled at 1.0. The console measures at 8.4 feet wide, 3.2 feet deep. Has some screens on it and a place for a chair and buttons on it. There is a side screen that looks like it is another workstation part of the console.

Hmm. I know there are 3.28 feet in a meter... ah, the original spacing on the grip was 20 feet. I must have divided some number into 20 and came up with 6.09, ah 3.28 feet. Urf, did something via the wrong dimension then.

Okay, the map with squares 1 meter, the squares are too small. Mostly cover the map so well, cannot see the symbols and floor behind it.

Even with 1.5 meters per square, still a problem. 2 meters per square, slightly better.

Ah, 4 meters per square is usable.

I've decided to see if I can work the Gazelle close escort ship deck plans. So far they look much better. Size of the drawing is easier to deal with.

Got the lower deck done... but it is kinda asymetrical. Doesn't look that way at first, but zooming in it does. I noticed that Joe Sweeny has Starship, using CC3 and Cosmographer, tutorials on youtube and it is possible to make it symetrical.

I'll look that over and see what I can come up with.

May I post a link to it here of my web site page ? The two pngs, different backgrounds, are 534x1115 pixels. Or zip them up and put in the file library ? They are lower deck of the Gazelle Close Escort.

Thanks !

Well, as you can see, I have progressed to the point I can link to my web site in my .sig. I'll fix my site nav menus so the deckplans are findable that way as I'll be adding a few things in the next week or so.

I've had to put the upper deck of the Gazelle on hold. Somehow I got the two scans at different sizes. The upper deck png is some percentage larger than the lower deck. Once I figure out how to fix that, I'll work on it and finish it.

Do not know if it helps.

For my last campaign, I scanned deck plans for the pdf pages into insscape, converted bitmap to path and scaled.

This worked well enough for my needs as a map.

Used to do a great job for the Spica subsector templates.

I figured out that I had mis-done the width on one of the scans making the upper deck plan bmp slightly too wide. I forgot to take into account the two laser turrets being on one deck plan, and not the other one. I haven't had a chance to work on it and I want to apologize for that.

I've had to put off work on the gig due to a number of reasons.

I have posted, and linked in my site navigation menus, 184 worlds.

In making preperations to upload about 30-40 more... I found some of my menus and maps had errors in them. So I am working through the site to make sure everything is where I said it was and is.

The additional worlds will connect Vespucian Arm Sector 1 to Sector 4 by adding stars/planets down the left column of Sectors 2 and 3 using Sub-Sectors A, E, I, and M. Sector 3 will have Sub-Sector N and O in addition.

Sector 3 will have 'Ancient's directional wormholes' mapped on it. Directional travel that is.
