Deckplan parameters

I haven't done a custom set of deckplans since HG was released, and find I have a need for some of the 'custom' ships in my campaign.

AHL and SS both delineate 1.5m squares for movement. That much I remember, and have confirmed.

14m cubed per ton. Ok. Per HG.

How many 'squares' per ton is my issue. Tried doing the math, and I am still not sure.

Per ton, 2 squares or 4 squares?

Standard square is 1.5 m. Standard human deck height is 3 m, so two squares high.

One ton is four boxes, generally stacked two high, so two squares floor area.

One box is 1.5 m cubed = 1.53 = 3.375 m3.
Four boxes are 4 × 3.375 = 13.5 m3 = 1 displacement ton.

How many squares ?

Two 1.5 meter squares - vertical. This is a total of 3.0 meters, from deck to deck.
The doing deck plans page in HG, 2nd. edition is somewhat confusing & not totally clear. I was confused at first when I first read it. It took me some intense study time & talking with fellow refs & gamers to really make it clear to me. But that was back in the day. I wish you good luck !
