Just wondering if there would be any interest in compiling a 'comprehensive' catalog of deckplan symbols, essentially updating the Classic Traveller deckplan symbols seen in GDW and FASA products.
Not looking to replace-renovate the existing icons but more establish a uniform set of 'standard' symbols and include new ideograms to better present-provide information previously overlooked.
One example would be adding graphics to designate airlocks or compartments that can be opened to direct vacuum or capable of being sealed to such. Nothing more than say a grey-scale textured overlay to highlight these areas would suffice. Cargo holds would have such as would hangers for small craft.
Another possible overlay might be used to denote compartments rated to contain radiation or denote a possible radiation hazard, engineering sections would receive such.
As to engineering sections, why not a simple notation that could identify the type-performance of drives-powerplants at a glance, such overlaid on said fittings.
Other things come to mind such as specific icons for lockers containing rescue gear or tools and those which store spacesuits or other hazardous environment outfitting.
Again, no really shake-up of the commonly accepted symbols but a little bit of streamlining and option for more clarity in general.
