FFE Classic Traveller Reprints

I noticed on the FFE site that the disclaimers in the third JTAS Reprint volume are gone. Its listed the same as all of the others.

So, has it been released? Has anyone who preordered it received it yet?

Has anyone found out what else Marc is committed to releasing between now and Jan 2005? Preferably, with some sort of timeline...

I don't know when they're coming out, but when they do, I'll snap up the two projected FEE releases, the JTAS 3rd Reprint and Second Survey.

The only commitment I have heard is that the 3rd JTAS Reprint will be release in "June or July".

As for the Second Survey, I think it is a bad idea. There are problems with the Atlas itself, and most of the files Marc would likely draw on are disasters waiting to happen. (Ask some in the 1248 playtest.) Far better to just leave Atlas as it is, and not make it worse.

I would rather see the Modules Reprint after JTAS 3. That would pretty much wrap up CT, with the exception of TTB and TTA.

(I actually think TTB + TTA should have been the *first* reprint. But at this point, I just want to see the Modules Reprint.)

I take it Second Survey refers to a cleaned up version of Atlas of the Imperium. One which would feature Hex maps and full UPP info. Hopefully, this product would be in 8.5x11 rather than landscape format.

I am not sure if Second Survey would be a mistake if it contained the entire Imperium and beyond. Then we could leave and fudge whatever comes along and have a constant Reference (pun intended) for Traveller. As it stands now, I can think of at least 4 versions of the Spinward Marches...to reduce that number to one would be an achievement.

The last thing Traveller needs is to have the entire Imperium spec'd out with UPPs. There's enough angst out there about the Marches alone to keep people going, let alone throwing N more sectors into the fray.

Different versions of sectors never seemed to affect any of our campaigns. It would affect all who need everything to be the same, everywhere.

Vargas is right, I think. We have the Genie files, and people like Malenfant are suggesting ways to correct various problems with UWPs, but that's probably as far as we ought to go.

Although either way is fine by me.

The GENII files are utterly, utterly broken - we've now nailed getting the right Stellar Data in there though (see this thread for details - note that this will be updated with the final version - v2.3 - tonight hopefully).

I think I'm going to be emailing MWM about this, perhaps he'll consider replacing the stellar data now that we have a system that actually works both in the statistical sense and in the sense that Flynn's program doesn't generate nonsense like whatever was used to make the GENII files.

But yeah, the last thing we need is a re-release of a book that is just going to propagate broken UWPs all over again.

I'm sure you'll be happy to know that the Gateway book is basely largely on the GEnie/Sunbane data.

I've just spent some time comparing UWPs out of the Gateway book to my database of GEnie info, and except for some tweaking, it's the same.

So, if Second Survey is only going to be a rehash of the broken, they yes, I'd agree, we don't need it, and if like that, I won't buy it.

I'm somewhat disappointed that Gateway to Destiny's worlds are based on it.

Well, if I'd been on the Gateway playtest I probably would have caught the problem... unfortunately I only signed up for the TNE playtest which was after that :(
